An important message from Dr Godfrey Dr. Godfrey Mumbi jr

DEAR HEALTH PRACTITIONER,

Around this time, hope and anxiety sit side by side. As the recruitment list is released, some will celebrate—and many, once again, will be left asking “what now?”

If that is you, I won’t offer empty comfort. The truth is painful but simple—the number of positions available cannot match the number of qualified, capable, and dedicated health workers we have. Good people will be left out. Not because they are not needed, but because the system cannot absorb them all at once.

But here is where your response matters.
Do not let this moment turn into bitterness or paralysis. You did not come this far to be defined by a single list. The same discipline that carried you through training must now carry you through uncertainty.

DO NOT let this moment convince you that you are stuck. You are trained, skilled, and needed—just not always in the places or systems you expected.

So shift the approach.

Stop waiting as your only strategy. Start positioning yourself. Look beyond the usual paths—private facilities, community initiatives, NGOs, digital health, partnerships with colleagues, even creating small service points where you are. It may not look like the career you imagined at first, but it keeps you active, visible, and growing.

Momentum matters more than perfection right now.

Keep your hands working. Keep your knowledge fresh. Keep your name circulating in the right spaces. Opportunities often meet those who are already in motion.

And protect your mindset. It’s easy to become discouraged when doors don’t open, but don’t close yourself off in response. KILLING YOURSELF WILL NOT SOLVE ANYTHING. This season requires resilience, but also creativity.

You are not finished—you are in transition.

Keep going.

Respectfully,
Someone who understands the weight of this moment
Dr. Godfrey Mumbi Jr
