Zambia, EU sign MoU on Forestry Partnerships.

Zambia has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)with the European Union on Forestry partnerships on the sidelines of ongoing COP27 in the Egyptian coastal city of Sharm el-Sheikh.

President Hakainde Hichilema through the facebook post said Zambia’s key challenges in fighting climate change has been to preserve its forests while safeguarding livelihoods and income created through this industry.

President Hichilema stated the Forestry Partnerships will address these challenges and ensure sustainable forest management by improving forest governance and enhancing a climate smart business environment.

He said the sustainable management of such a valuable resource, will lead to creation of jobs and wealth.

COP27 builds on the outcomes of COP26 to deliver action on an array of issues critical to tackling the climate emergency – from urgently reducing greenhouse gas emissions, building resilience, and adapting to the inevitable impacts of climate change, to delivering on the commitments to finance climate action in developing countries.
President Hichilema added faced with a growing energy crisis, record greenhouse gas concentrations, and increasing extreme weather events, COP27 seeks renewed solidarity between countries, to deliver on the landmark Paris Agreement, for people and the planet.

Dumisani Ncube writes;

One who has experienced rejection fears rejection. One who fears rejection tends to push away before they are rejected.

In their subconscious mind they have avoided rejection.

In reality they have been rejected again. This time by themselves.

Never let rejection lead to self rejection.

VIBRANT YOUTH ASTRIDAH CHIPOWE TAKES PART IN THE FIGHT AGAINST CORONA VIRUS .

By Jackson chibuye
According to the World Health Organisation there are more than 3.1 million confirmed cases of Coronavirus also know as COVID19 and more than 227,000 deaths across the world.

Meet the young and vibrant Astridah Chipowe Of Lusaka’s Mtendere Compound.

Astridah is the founder of Youth Care Foundation an organisation that inspires and transforms the lives of the Orphans and Vulnerable Children and she has decided to take part in the fight against COVID19.

The young passionate Radio and TV personality who deeply loves media and charity work and also has a passion for writing wants to see fellow young people playing their part and taking up the lead in leadership.

Astridah has shared her views on COVID19 with Dream Big Media Foundation DBMF and what she’s doing to help fight the virus.

She says she is helping sensitize young people on prevention measures as advised by the Ministry of
Health.

“As young person,I am using social media to spread information through my organization page and partnering with other young organizations-such as Dream Big by telling people to follow the health guidelines from the ministry of health which are;
1)Wash hands frequently with soap or using alcohol based hand sanitizer
2)Maintenance of social distancing
3)Avoid crowded places
4)Avoid unnecessary movements
5)Stay home.
6)Avoid hand shakes and hugs

Basically am positively using social media to educate people”,Astridah says.

She continues to say “Well covid 19 has negative effects on me personally because I usually have a lot of programs I run hence these programs have been shut because of the same ,no gathering and any public meeting.

However,there is E-learning that has now been introduced and this means we are now learning online which at times maybe a challenge, we may encounter issues of load shedding and others may not have access to a computer or television”,she added.

Most youths have been negatively affected as they cannot work due to the mandatory closure of some businesses such as casinos and the operating of restaurants on take away basis.

Small businesses have equally been affected because there’s less movement in people and less spending power by majority of Zambians.

Astridah concludes by saying “Stay safe
together,we can fight this”.

Coronavirus is a deadly disease therefore it is very important for each and everyone of us to play a role by wearing masks,washing hands with soap for not less than 20 seconds and maintains social distance of at least a meter apart.

Stay Home and Stay Safe!
