The Information and Communications University is currently conducting short courses in artisanal and small-scale mining, bringing together small-scale miners and individuals seeking to build skills in the sector.
The training programme aims to equip participants with practical knowledge and modern techniques to improve productivity and safety in mining operations.
Course Coordinator, Mr. Danny Musenge, says formalising the artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) sector is critical to driving sustainable development in the mining industry.
Mr. Musenge explains that beyond rock identification and exploration, participants are also being introduced to the latest technologies and exposed to world-class training methods.
He adds that promoting safe mining practices aligns with government efforts to enhance safety standards in small-scale mining across the country.
Mr. Musenge has since encouraged Zambians interested in the mining sector to take advantage of the training opportunities being offered at ICU.
The university is currently running its third cohort of the artisanal and small-scale mining short course.
