Today, Government and private sector partners signed landmark Concession Agreements for three transformative projects: the Chirundu Border and Auxiliary Infrastructure Project, the Kimiswalo Border and Road Project, and the Mulungushi University Student Accommodation and Supporting Infrastructure Project.
The ceremony, held at Mulungushi International Conference Centre from 15:00 to 16:30 hours, was witnessed by senior government officials including Minister of Finance and National Planning Hon. Dr. Situmbeko Musokotwane, MP, Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry Hon. Mulenga Chipoka, MP, Minister of Education Hon. Douglas Syakalima, MP, and Minister of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development Hon. Charles Lubasi Milupi, MP.
Key highlights for Mulungushi University:
Under the Public-Private Partnership framework, Government signed an MoU with Swift Safety Concessionaires Limited to construct:
19,000-bed capacity student hostels for both the Kabwe Main Campus and the Livingstone Campus.
A modern Teaching Hospital Facility to support medical training and healthcare delivery.
A modern Stadium with running tracks at Main Campus, positioning Mulungushi University as the preferred host for most ZUSA Games.
Speaking during the vote of thanks, the National Council of Students Union (NACOSU) Central Province Coordinator, who also serves as the Mulungushi University Student Union President, expressed profound gratitude to President Hakainde Hichilema and the New Dawn Government for prioritizing student welfare and infrastructure development.
โFor years, accommodation has been the biggest challenge facing students at Mulungushi University. Today, that story changes. The 19,000-bed capacity project means no student will be left behind. The Teaching Hospital will transform how we train our doctors, and the modern Stadium cements our place as the home of university sports in Zambia. This is what a listening government looks like,โ he said.
The Student Union President further commended the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Education, and Mulungushi University Management led by Vice-Chancellor Professor Roy Mukwena for driving the PPP agenda to actualization. He assured Government of the student bodyโs commitment to safeguarding the facilities and using them to advance academic and sporting excellence.
The signed agreements mark a major milestone in Zambiaโs infrastructure and education sectors, directly aligning with the Zambia Vision 2030 Development Agenda and the Presidentโs commitment to human capital development.
