Zambian Women in Agriculture Research and Development (ZaWARD)
Terms of Reference (TOR)
Position: Full time master’s level coordinator internship
Duty Station: Lusaka, Zambia
Duration: 6 months (June 2025 – December 2025)
Reports to: ZaWARD Chairperson

Background
ZaWARD is implementing a mentoring and internship program in partnership with the Indaba Agricultural Policy Research Institute (IAPRI) under the AICCRA (Accelerating Impacts of CGIAR Climate Research for Africa) I2G initiative. The project aims to build research capacity among women in agriculture and facilitate knowledge transfer through mentoring, technical training, and field engagement.
To support successful implementation and timely delivery of project activities and reports, ZaWARD seeks a highly motivated and organized Project Coordinator intern.
Objective of the Position
The Intern will be responsible for coordinating, planning, and overseeing the day-to-day implementation of the project work plan and deliverables, ensuring timely reporting, budget compliance, stakeholder engagement, and alignment with donor requirements. Additionally, the intern will also support additional ZaWARD activities.
Key Responsibilities
• Coordinate and monitor implementation of the project activities as per the approved workplan.
• Liaise with IAPRI, mentors, mentees, and other stakeholders to facilitate effective collaboration and communication.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date project documentation including financial and technical reports.
• Ensure timely submission of progress, technical, and financial reports as per the templates provided in the agreement.
• Support procurement, logistics, and administrative processes related to project events, workshops, and activities.
• Facilitate communication and feedback channels among mentors, mentees, and implementing partners.
• Track milestones and deliverables, and assist in drafting the project completion report.
• Ensure adherence to project codes of conduct, environmental and social safeguards, and grievance mechanisms.
• Support internal and external audit processes by ensuring proper record retention and accessibility.
• Support and be engaged in the implementation of other ZaWARD activities.

Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Project Management, Development Studies, Agriculture, or related field.
• Master’s student in the field of agricultural, project management, development studies, gender or related field.
• Minimum 2 years’ experience coordinating donor-funded or research-related projects.
• Proven ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and maintain attention to detail.
• Strong writing and communication skills for reporting and stakeholder engagement.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word; familiarity with budgeting and reporting templates.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience working in gender-related or agricultural development projects is highly desirable.
Duration and Conditions
This is a, 6-month contract position (June 2025 – December 2025), with possible extension subject to funding availability and performance. The intern must be ready to commit to a full-time internship program at master’s level. Stipend is fixed at USD 250 p/m

Last Friday- 21st February 2025, The Zambian Women in Agricultural Research and Development (ZAWARD) successfully hosted role modeling/ mentoring program at the Information Communications University (ICU)! 🫴

This was a fantastic initiative to empower and equip girls and women in science with the knowledge, skills, and connections needed to thrive in this critical sector.
