A book launch event which was held at zambia open university honouring the zambian human rights activist and former director of the southern Africa network The book narrates his controversial prosecution for contempt of court by the Supreme Court of Zambia, arising from his public criticism of a court ruling in the Savenda Management Services v Stanbic Bank case. Chifire's riticism, published in articles and interviews, challenged what he saw as judicial bias, and a lack of transparency in Zambia's highest courts. The book documents the proceedings that followed, during which Chifire was charged, tried, and sentenced to six years imprisonment in absentia. He fled into exile, refusing to subject himself to what he described as an inherently unjust process here the judges acted as complainants prosecutors, and adjudicators in their own cause-a fundamental violation of the principles of natural justice and the rule of law.Beyond recounting his personal ordeal, Travesty of Justice critically examines Zambia.
