In the first picture above to the left is Engineer BERNARD Chiwala handing over a seedling of chestnut 🌰 to His Excellency the Zambian Ambassador to Malawi LT Colonel Hon Panji Kaunda when he visited Moriah Gardens on Valentine’s Day the 14th February 2023.
Hon Ambassador Kaunda and Engineer Chiwala have one thing in Common -they are both fruit tree and tee crop farmers with a special focus on avocados🥑.
The duo during their reunion discussed a number of issues concerning the promotion of the commercial cultivation of avocados 🥑 in Zambia; the sourcing of biodegradable grafting tapes, the promotion of organic fertilizers for avocados and the local production of grow bags were also discussed.
Engineer Chiwala was challenged and inspired to learn that during the 2022/2023 planting season Hon Ambassador Panji Kaunda had planted 5,000 rootstocks of Mangos 🥭.
On the avocado 🥑 front the total grafted Hass avocados 🥑that Hon Ambassador Kaunda has already planted in the ground stands at 550. Another 450 grafted plants are in the nursery and will be planted within 2 months time.
What is remarkable about Hon Ambassador Panji Kaunda is that he is a skilled fruit tree grafter.

In the first picture above taken on 5/12/2022 on the left is Engineer BERNARD Chiwala and to his left is Mr George Chellah.
Mr Chellah served as Special Assistant to the President in charge of Press and Public Relations during the reign of The Late President His Excellency Mr Michael Chilufya SATA.
Mr Chellah visited Moriah Gardens to learn about avocado 🥑 cultivation and value addition.
Engineer Chiwala and Mr Chellah worked very closely during the implementation of LINK ZAMBIA 🇿🇲 8000km Road Project and the introduction of the National Tolling Program in Zambia.
In the second picture above in the middle in a blue work suit is Graduate Engineer Ms Tumbikani Chiwala who has just joined Moriah Gardens following the completion of her studies.
Ms Tumbikani Chiwala is undergoing some orientation in Nursery management, Commercial Cultivation of avocados, How to improve staff performance, Effective staff Supervision, food processing and Avocado 🥑 value addition.

On the first day of a new month of November 2022, in Makeni Balmoral, Lusaka;
The Heavens’ taps opened to send us some rain to come and quench a dry, hot and thirsty land much to the delight of the Hass Avocado 🥑 seedlings.
One farmer, an old time friend and school mate of Engineer BERNARD Chiwala- Engineer Kelly Chibatabata always marvels at the Economic Value of rain water 💦.

On 11/10/2022, In the first two pictures above on the left; Engineer BERNARD Chiwala receiving the Nursery Registration Certificate on behalf of Moriah Gardens-from Dr K. K. Msiska the Director- Plant Quarantine And Phytosanitary Service under the Ministry of Agriculture.
In the third picture above is the hass avocado 🥑 nursery at Moriah Gardens .
The registration of avocado nurseries follows the sensitization meeting that was held on 3/6/2022 at Government Complex between Avocado 🥑 Cooperatives and Market Players and the Ministry of Agriculture.
It was done to discuss Avocado 🥑 production in Zambia 🇿🇲 and Market Access Requirements. Certification of Avocado Nurseries is paramount as Zambia 🇿🇲 begins to enter the Export Market.
This initiative would assist in containing plant 🌱 pests and diseases.
The Department of Plant Quarantine and Phytosanitary Service under the Ministry of Agriculture is committed to working with avocado 🥑 farmers and nursery owners in order to ensure that avocados 🥑 grown in Zambia meet the Global Certification Requirements.

On Saturday, 17th September 2022, in the picture above to the left Engineer BERNARD Chiwala of Moriah Gardens handing over some Cold Pressed Avocado 🥑 oil processed and packaged at MORIAH Gardens, Makeni Lusaka in the 250ml glass bottles to the Minister of Agriculture Honourable Reuben Phiri Mtolo, MP. The Zambian produced cold pressed avocado oil entered the Market Testing Stage on Friday the 16th September 2022. The Honourable Minister and his team have been supportive of the private sector initiative of promoting the commercial cultivation of avocados 🥑 in Zambia 🇿🇲 through the sharing of information on how Zambian avocados 🥑 farmers may access international markets for Avocados 🥑 and its value added products.

Just received two 50kg sacks of Hass Avocado 🥑 fruits from Bird Bridge Farms, Lusaka west. This is part of the 2022 harvest.
Thanks to Engineer Patrick Mutimushi the Chairperson of the Avocado 🥑 Cooperative Union of Zambia 🇿🇲 and Vice Chairperson of the Lusaka Avocado Multipurpose Cooperative Society for his boundless generosity.
The 100kg hass avocado 🥑 Fruits once ripe will be used to produce virgin avocado oil using the cold press method. The ripe avocados 🥑 after blending will be spread on a drying pan shown in the second picture above and solar dried for 3 to 4 days in a green house. Once fully dried the avocado 🥑 will be cold pressed using on an oil expeller.
Those with avocado 🥑 fruits who would like to have avocado oil produced for them are welcome to Moriah Gardens.

Engineer BERNARD Chiwala in a green cap on Women’s Day 8/3/2022 reconnected with his former school mate Dr Isaac Chisenga in green top after 31 years of separation. The Duo attended Mpelembe Secondary school together. Dr Chisenga who is a VET DOCTOR now lives and works in South Africa as a Financial Advisor for Alexander Forbes.
During his visit to Moriah Gardens Dr Chisenga briefed Eng Chiwala about the farm he has been developing in Serenje growing groundnuts on commercial scale. DR CHisenga is also working on planting onions 🧅 and also have a go at seed multiplication on Commercial scale using center pivot irrigation system.
The duo also talked about the the emerging prospects in the commercial cultivation of avocados 🥑 and Value Addition. On 9th March 2022 Dr Chisenga joined the LUSAKA Avocado 🥑 Multipurpose Cooperative after paying the membership fee and buying some shares.

In the first picture above on Women’s Day the 8th Of March 2022 in the Centre with a cap 🧢 is Engineer BERNARD Chiwala grafting an avocado root stock.
To the left of Engineer Chiwala is Paul Muonga a grade 10 pupil 👩🎓 and to his right is MR James Njovu a 3rd year Genaral agriculture Science student at Mulungushi University who came to Moriah Gardens to learn about the art of fruit tree grafting.
MR Njovu did provide scions from a lovely local avocado 🥑 variety from Kabwata named JAME.
In the second picture is a robust root stock in a 6L plastic container that had just been grafted.
In the third picture are avocado seedlings in a shed net.

To the right is His Honour MR Enock Kavindele, Past Vice President of the Republic of Zambia 🇿🇲 when he visited Moriah Gardens on 3/3/2022.
During the visit Engineer Chiwala and the Moriah Gardens team took time to explain to Honourable Kavindele on the A to Z of Avocado 🥑 Farming and avocado value addition. During the meeting Engineer Chiwala also shared on what the LUSAKA AVOCADO 🥑 MULTIPURPOSE COOPERATIVE is doing in its quest of promoting commercial cultivation of avocados in Zambia.
Eng Chiwala further explained about the value of bee 🐝 keeping in achieving sustainable agriculture.
