MPEZENI REJECTS PROPOSED DELIMITATION MAP OF RE-ALIGNING LUANGENI WARDS

Paramount Chief Mpezeni has rejected the proposed delimitation map which suggested the isolation of some wards in Luangeni and Chipata Central Constituencies and named the new constituency Nsingo.

Paramount Chief Mpezeni and his sub-chiefs summoned the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) Chipata District Electoral Officer, Dulani Phiri, to Ephendeni Palace together with Ngoni chiefs, expressing disapproval of what was resolved on 16th February 2026 during the delimitation sitting and stating that the chiefs were not consulted.

Chief Kapatamoyo and Sairi accused politicians of being disrespectful to the chiefs, who are custodians of the land and the people.

FORMER MUNALI MINERS PROTEST AGAIN

Former mine workers at Munali Nickel Mine in Chikankata District, Southern Province, have staged another protest at the mine gate after allegedly being denied entry, despite earlier assurances that they would be granted access.

The former employees are demanding payment of outstanding salaries, remittance of 29 months of unpaid Regina Saturnia pension contributions, settlement of terminal benefits, issuance of official clearance letters, and access to exit medical examinations.

The workers say tensions escalated after they were blocked from entering the premises to collect their personal belongings.

ROBERT MUGABE'S SON CHARGED WITH ATTEMPTED MURDER IN SOUTH AFRICA

The youngest son of Zimbabwe's late former President Robert Mugabe has been formally charged with attempted murder at a brief appearance in a South African court.

Bellarmine Mugabe, 28, was arrested last week after a 23-year-old man was shot and injured at a property in an upmarket suburb of Johannesburg last Thursday. He was then taken into custody alongside his bodyguard - neither man has commented on the charges.

Appearing in court, dressed in black, Mugabe looked calm during the proceedings.

Bellarmine is the youngest son of Robert and his second wife Grace Mugabe. Robert Mugabe, who died in 2019, led Zimbabwe for 37 years before being forced out of power at the age of 93 in 2017.

Searching the property in Hyde Park where the shooting happened, police have found bullet cartridges but no firearm so far.

Mugabe and Tobias Tamirepi Matonhodze, 33, also face additional charges, including defeating the ends of justice, which relates to the missing firearm, prosecutors say.

The victim is in hospital and in a critical condition.

Speaking outside court, Mugabe's lawyer Sinenhlanhla Mnguni provided an update on his well-being, telling reporters his client was "fine" as he remains in custody.

Describing the circumstances of the shooting, prosecutors allege that "an altercation occurred between the victim and the accused inside Mugabe's home".

While attempting to flee the victim was then allegedly "shot in the back and collapsed outside the gate" and the gate was then closed, according to a statement from the National Prosecuting Authority.

The case against Mugabe and Matonhodze was postponed until 3 March when a bail application will be made.

GPZ RESET VISION CALLS FOR CABINET APPOINTMENTS OUTSIDE PARLIAMENT.

Lusaka, Zambia — February 23, 2026.

The Governance Party of Zambia (GPZ) Reset Vision Campaign has renewed calls for a fundamental shift in how the country's Cabinet is constituted, advocating strongly for the appointment of Cabinet ministers from outside Parliament a reform that citizens have long demanded but successive governments have repeatedly shelved.

In a statement issued today and personally approved by Jackson Silavwe, the GPZ Reset Vision Campaign argued that appointing Cabinet ministers from outside the legislature would produce a more accountable, independent, and results-oriented executive arm of government.

A Long-Standing Public Demand
According to the campaign, Zambians have consistently raised the matter of separating Cabinet from Parliament during nearly every constitutional review process the country has undertaken. However, the statement notes that ruling parties — dating as far back as the UNIP era — have routinely excluded this proposal from any resulting constitutional amendments, a pattern GPZ Reset Vision describes as deliberate political self-preservation.

The campaign outlined five key reasons it believes Cabinet should be drawn from outside Parliament. A Cabinet constituted in this manner, it argues, would owe its loyalty to the Zambian people rather than to the ruling party and its officeholders. Such ministers would also be less susceptible to political pressure from party cadres and would be driven by measurable results rather than the need to please those in power.

Crucially, GPZ Reset Vision contends the reform would significantly strengthen parliamentary oversight over the executive — a pillar of democratic governance — while simultaneously improving the system of checks and balances, giving both opposition and ruling party legislators a more meaningful role in holding the government to account.

The call echoes a governance model practiced in several presidential democracies, where the executive and legislature are kept constitutionally separate to prevent conflicts of interest and ensure that Cabinet ministers focus entirely on service delivery rather than political survival. Critics of the current Zambian arrangement have long argued that having ministers retain their parliamentary seats blurs the line between the legislature and the executive, undermining the independence of both.

GPZ Reset Vision's push comes at a time of growing public discourse around constitutional reform in Zambia, with civil society organizations and ordinary citizens increasingly vocal about the need for deeper structural changes to the country's governance architecture.
Statement

LUBINDA CAMP IS A UPND GROUP

By Moses Chiboko Musonda

I have just read the resolutions of the so-called Patriotic Front faction led by Given Lubinda, and I must express my deep shock and concern.

It is deeply disturbing to see names such as Guy Scott — a man who openly opposed President Edgar Chagwa Lungu for years and later defected to UPND — now playing a key role in Patriotic Front affairs. To many of us loyal PF members, this is not only confusing but a direct insult to the legacy of Presidents Edgar Chagwa Lungu and Michael Chilufya Sata, and to the ideals we stood for.

Equally concerning is the inclusion of Dr. Chitalu Chilufya — widely known as a UPND surrogate — who even voted for Bill 7 — now being allowed to contest in these so-called internal elections. What message does this send to genuine PF members who stood firm and defended the party during its most difficult moments?

Mama Inonge Wina, with due respect, distanced herself from President Lungu immediately after we lost power. She later accepted an appointment as Special Envoy under President Hakainde Hichilema and was placed on the government payroll. These are matters of public record and cannot simply be ignored.

Miles Sampa, Hazel Saliya Kapeta, Misheck Ndumbwi, and others who openly collaborated with UPND are today central to decision-making within the Lubinda camp. The very individuals who weakened PF from within are now shaping its direction.

This raises a serious and unavoidable question: Is this still the Patriotic Front we built and defended, or has it become something else entirely?

PF members must reflect carefully. A political party cannot survive without ideological clarity, loyalty, and respect for its founding principles.

Sampa Mwaume - The Chinsalian comment - actually Dr Guy Scot is a serving member of the UPND National Management Committee (NMC), unless if he was removed unannounced. Since leaving PF with Hon. Silvia Masebo after ECL won the 2016 PF presidency at the Kabwe Rock of Authority convention, Guy Scott has remained a UPND senior leader with his wife standing on UPND ticket in 2016 as Lusaka Central Constituency MP, she lost to Mwanakatwe.

I therefore agree 💯 with the writer, this is HH's project and the 25th February, 2026 judgement will favour Miles Sampa, PF will be given back so that PF members remain divided giving advantage to UPND. Chabinga won't even appeal this outcome, watch the space.

SECRET DAUGHTER CLAIM EMERGES IN MAGANDE ESTATE CASE

By Darius Choonya

The family of former Finance Minister Ng'andu Magande has confirmed that their relative allegedly left behind a daughter born out of wedlock, Namweemba Bianca Magande.

In this matter, Namweemba, aged 38, has petitioned the Lusaka High Court to be recognised as a rightful heir.

She is also seeking an order to have her father’s remains exhumed so that a DNA test can be conducted.

This follows the granting of letters of administration in February 2024 to estate administrators Simwaale Magande, widow Joyce Mudenda, and Nakanjoli Magande.

In her witness statement, Eunice Kachelo, sister to the late Magande, has told the court that she has no doubt that Namweemba is the daughter of the late Ng’andu Peter Magande.

She stated that her brother informed her in 1987 that he had a daughter in Livingstone born out of wedlock and that he had even stayed with the child for six months.

Eunice has further told the court that during a family meeting at the funeral, when elders called for the children of the late Magande, she also called Namweemba, recognising her as the deceased’s child.

However, she said this angered the widow, who allegedly chased them from the funeral house, forcing them to sit outside.

Meanwhile, Aaron Mwiinga, aged 87, a farmer and uncle to the late Magande, says that in 2011, the late Magande visited his home and informed him that he had a daughter named Namweemba who was born out of wedlock.
