One day a state trooper while patrolling the roads spied a vehicle on a country road at twenty-two miles an hour. It looked quite suspicious to him so he pulled the driver over. When the state trooper was approaching the car, he noticed that the passengers inside looked wide-eyed and really pale.
As he stood next to the car the elderly driver started talking, “Officer, I don't understand why you pulled me over, I was doing exactly the speed limit! So I don’t understand what seems to be the problem?”
‘Sir”, the officer replied, “indeed you weren’t speeding, but driving much slower than the speed limit can also be very dangerous.” “I’m sorry officer but I beg to differ, I was doing exactly the speed limit as stated on the sign: twenty-two miles an hour!” the old man said.
The trooper was a bit surprised but started explaining that the “22” on the sign was the route number and not the speed limit. A bit embarrassed, the old man grinned a bit and thanked the state trooper for pointing out his mistake.
But before the state trooper was about to let the old man go he said; “But before I let you go, sir, I really have to ask whether everyone in this car is feeling all right?” “Because your Passengers seem awfully pale and shaken.”
“Oh, they’ll be all right in a minute,” the old man said.
“We just got off Route 119“

The Midnight Wanderer
Under the pale light of a crescent moon, the city streets were silent. Shadows stretched long and thin, draping every corner in mystery. On such nights, when the rest of the world was asleep, an elusive figure known only as the Wanderer emerged.
Dressed in a dark cloak, the Wanderer moved swiftly, his footsteps unheard, as if the night itself cushioned his every step. His eyes, gleaming with a strange luminescence, saw beyond the ordinary. He was not human—at least, not entirely. Once mortal, the Wanderer had made a pact with the night many years ago. In exchange for eternal life, he was bound to walk the earth only under the cover of darkness, never to see the sun again.
Tonight, the air was thick with whispers. The city seemed to hold its breath as the Wanderer made his way to the old clock tower. Legend had it that at midnight, the tower's bell would toll thirteen times, summoning forces unseen by most. The Wanderer had heard this tale whispered among the shadows for centuries, and tonight, he would finally uncover the truth.
As the clock struck twelve, a thin mist curled around the base of the tower. The first toll echoed through the streets, shaking the Wanderer to his core. But it wasn't until the thirteenth chime that the ground beneath him began to tremble. From the mist, shapes began to form—figures long forgotten by time, creatures of the night like him.
The Wanderer stood still, watching as they approached. Some were as ancient as the stars, their forms flickering in and out of sight. Others were new to the dark world, just as lost and restless as he had once been. They came closer, their eyes glowing with the same eerie light as his own, as if recognizing a kindred spirit.
The leader of the group, an ethereal being with eyes that reflected the night sky, stepped forward. "You are not alone, Wanderer," she said, her voice like the rustle of leaves in the wind. "We are the keepers of the night, bound by the same fate. Together, we protect the secrets that darkness holds."
For the first time in centuries, the Wanderer felt something stir within him—a sense of belonging. He was no longer just a solitary figure in the night. He was part of something greater, a protector of the shadows. And as the mist began to dissipate, the Wanderer disappeared into the night with his new kin, his eternal journey taking on new purpose.
