Today is International World Hearing Day!

🧦21st March is World Down sydrome Day.
💡This day aims to help people learn about this condition and understand those born with it.

🧦Down Syndrome
💡A condition in which the child is born with an extra 21st chromosome.
It is a  genetic disorder, and it causes developmental disabilities.
💡 The child born with this condition is also likely to suffer thyroid or heart related problems.

🧦Symptoms
💡Small head and ears, short neck, flat facial features.
💡Developmental disabilities like impulsive behaviour, lack of attention, language delay.

🧦Theme :"We Decide."
💡The theme signifies that all people with Down syndrome should have full participation in decision making about matters relating to, or affecting, their lives.
💡For most children with Down syndrome, being empowered to speak or communicate using alternative means is the first step to making decisions.

🔦 Stuttering/stammering.
Locally known as chibwibwi/ichikukuma, is a speech disorder in which the flow of speech is disrupted by involuntary repetitions and prolongations of sounds, syllables, words or phrases and blocks.
The following are present when one stutters:
💡Part-word repetitions – "I w-w-w-want a drink."
💡One-syllable word repetitions – "Go-go-go away."
💡Prolonged sounds – "Ppppppppeter is nice."
💡Blocks or stops – "I want a (pause) water."
💡Fillers-“uhm, like, mmm”
💡Behaviors like head nodding or eye blinking are usually present in people that stutter.
22nd October is International Stuttering Awareness Day.
This years theme: "Journey of Words -Resilience and Bouncing Back". People who stutter (PWS) can not only overcome hurdles of this speech impediment, they can also become more resilient and bounce back even at their toughest.😊💪 But they need our support!

World Humanitarian Day (WHD)
The world commemorates humanitarian workers killed and injured in the course of their work, and we honour all aid and health workers who continue, despite the odds, to provide life-saving support and protection to people most in need.

This year World Humanitarian Day comes as the world continues to fight the COVID-19 pandemic over recent months. Aid workers are overcoming unprecedented access hurdles to assist people in humanitarian crises in 54 countries, as well as in a further nine countries which have been catapulted into humanitarian need by the COVID-19 pandemic.
