Meet: Mbalendo Oswell Longwe

In today’s edition of Know Your 2025/26 Academic Year Leaders, we feature Mbalendo Longwe, a fourth‑year Human Resource Management student at The Copperbelt University and the PRESIDENT of the Zambia Institute of Human Resource Management-ZIHRM-CBU Chapter.

As President, Mbalendo’s role is central to the Chapter’s leadership, representation, and strategic direction. His responsibilities include:

• Student Representation: Serveing as a Council Member of the COBUSU SRC or any council where the society is required to sit, as the representative for all Human Resource Management students, along with the Secretary General and Vice President.

• Chief Executive Officer: Acting as the CEO of the HRM Chapter structure at CBU.

• Meeting Chairperson: Chairing all meetings of the Chapter.

• Official communication: Signing all official statements of the Chapter with the Secretary General.

• Networking: Establishing links and maintaining cordial relationships among student associations at CBU and other institutions.

• Spokesperson duties: Serving as the spokesperson of the organisation.

• Financial responsibility: Being a signatory to the Chapter’s account along with the Secretary General and the Finance Secretary.

Mbalendo’s presidency is marked by vision, and inclusivity. He has guided the executive board in governance and program delivery, fostered partnerships between academia and industry, and promoted initiatives that strengthen career readiness for HRM students.

Beyond his Chapter responsibilities, Mbalendo is also skilled in brand identity design and corporate communications, enhancing the Chapter’s visibility and engagement. His passion for connecting students with HR practitioners reflects his commitment to bridging knowledge with practice and inspiring professional growth.

Meet: Nicky Katongo

In today’s edition of Know Your 2025/26 Academic Year Leaders, we feature Nicholas Katongo, documentally known as Nicky Katongo, a third‑year Human Resource Management student at The Copperbelt University and the SECRETARY GENERAL for the Zambia Institute of Human Resource Management-ZIHRM-CBU Chapter.

Nicky’s role is central to the Chapter’s administration and governance, ensuring order, accountability, and implementation of the President’s strategic direction. His responsibilities include:

• Administrative & Corporate communication: Signing all official statements of the Chapter.

• Signatory duties: Nicky serves as a signatory to the Chapter’s account alongside the President and Finance Secretary.

• Record keeping: Preparing and keeping minutes of each meeting.

• Reporting: Producing reports, and receiving reports from other executives to forward to the President and Vice President.

• Agenda preparation: Preparing agendas for executive and general meetings in consultation with the President and executive members.

• Debate facilitation: Creating and utilizing articles and journal publications as a springboard for debating issues in the Chapter’s WhatsApp group chat.

• Inventory oversight: Ensuring that all Chapter inventories remain in good standing.

• Leadership succession: Assuming responsibility in the absence of the President and Vice President.

Nicky has demonstrated composed and strategic impact driven leadership. His role ensures that the Chapter remains organized, credible, and aligned with its President’s vision.

In today’s edition of Know Your 2025/26 Academic Year Leaders, we feature Hildah Malambo, a third‑year Human Resource Management student at The Copperbelt University and the VICE PRESIDENT of the Zambia Institute of Human Resource Management-ZIHRM-CBU Chapter.

Hildah previously served as a committee member in the 2024/25 executive team, demonstrating her steady growth in leadership. She is also a COBUSU SRC member, holding a parliamentary seat as an Honourable member of the August House. Known as a vibrant leader, she carries out her work with a passionate heart and a strong commitment to service.

As Vice President, her responsibilities include:

• Taking on the responsibilities of the President in his absence.

• Performing duties as delegated by the President.

• Chairing the chapter’s disciplinary committee.

• Assuming the responsibilities of the President if he is unable to continue, or if the position becomes vacant, until by‑elections are held.

Hildah’s leadership reflects resilience, inclusivity, and a passion for empowering HRM students. Her dual role in ZIHRM‑CBU and COBUSU demonstrates her ability to balance academic leadership with broader student governance, making her a strong voice for peers both within the Chapter and across the university.

In today’s edition of Know Your 2025/26 Academic Year Leaders, we feature Kabaso Favour Mwewa, a third‑year Human Resource Management student at The Copperbelt University and the FINANCE SECRETARY of the Zambia Institute of Human Resource Management-ZIHRM-CBU Chapter.

Favour is entrusted with safeguarding the Chapter’s financial integrity and ensuring transparency in all monetary undertakings. Her responsibilities include:

• Fund disbursement: she only releases chapter funds when directed by the President or Vice President and the Secretary General.

• Financial accountability: Maintaining proper and accurate accounts of receipts and payments, never mixing Chapter funds with personal accounts.

• Signatory duties: Serving as a signatory to the Chapter’s financial accounts alongside the President and Secretary General.

• Budget reporting: Preparing and presenting an annual budget report to the Executive.

• Auditing preparation: Making financial books available for auditing at the end of the academic year.

• Supervision: Overseeing Projects Coordinator’s running of any financial undertakings of the chapter.

• Membership fees: Collecting membership fees and other funds arising.

• Fundraising activities: Initiating activities alongside the Projects Coordinator for raising funds to support Chapter programs.

Favour’s role is central to the Chapter’s sustainability, ensuring that resources are managed responsibly and that financial operations remain transparent and accountable.

In today’s edition of Know Your 2025/26 Academic Year Leaders, we feature Emeldah Mukubi, a third‑year Human Resource Management student at The Copperbelt University and the PROJECTS & EVENTS COORDINATOR of the Zambia Institute of Human Resource Management-ZIHRM-CBU Chapter

Emeldah is known for her dedication to carrying out projects and programs that strengthen the Chapter’s activities. Her responsibilities include:

• Overseeing all projects and programs undertaken by the association.
• Heading and supervising all Chapter fundraising ventures, and submitting reports to the Finance Secretary.
• Initiating activities designed to raise funds and support Chapter growth.
• Coordinating logistics for all Chapter tours.

Beyond her Chapter work, Emeldah is a strong believer and MG at the SDA Church, where she demonstrates leadership through fellowship, embodying values of service, faith, and community.
