Applications Now Open | Copperbelt University Data Science Regional Hackathon 2026

Are you a final-year undergraduate, postgraduate student, or young professional with an interest in Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, and Machine Learning? This is your opportunity to collaborate with like-minded innovators, develop your technical skills, and gain hands-on experience solving a real-world machine learning challenge.

Participants will spend four days working in multidisciplinary teams, receiving mentorship from experienced trainers, and applying data science techniques to real datasets.

* Have basic Python programming experience
* Are passionate about Data Science and Machine Learning
* Can commit to the full four-day hackathon and complete the pre-hackathon activities

The African Network for Women in Astronomy (AfNWA) is calling on all women in astronomy to submit stories for the second edition of their book. The first issue was published at the IAUGA2024 in Cape Town. The deadline for submission is 30 September 2026.

πŸ‡ΏπŸ‡² Zambia is proud to be represented in the Hack4dev Data Science Hackathon Programme (DSHP), with three active teams participating in this global initiative 🌍. This year’s programme brings together teams from 13 countries to strengthen data science and innovation skills through collaborative problem-solving and hands-on learning.
As part of the initiative, Zambia will also be hosting local hackathon activities at three universities. The participating teams and representatives are:

β€’ Lynn Mambalakata - The University of Zambia -UNZA
β€’ Zilana Kaluba - Mulungushi University

🌟 Two days. Hundreds of young minds. Endless possibilities.πŸš€

PAP2SN Open Day 2026 was more than just an event, it was a platform for inspiring curiosity, fostering innovation, and showing students that they can be part of shaping Africa's scientific future. Bringing together students, educators, researchers, and the public, the event celebrated the power of STEM, innovation, and space science to inspire the next generation.
Some of the highlights included quiz competitions among twelve schools in Mathematics, Physics, Astronomy & Space Science, an engaging debate competition, and a science project exhibition showcasing the creativity and talent of young innovators. Participants were also treated to an extraordinary and exciting public lecture by Prof. James Chibueze, which left many inspired by the possibilities of science and discovery. The event concluded with a spectacular planetarium show, giving attendees a breathtaking journey through the cosmos. πŸŒŒπŸ”­
A huge thank you to everyone who participated, supported, and helped make this event a success. Together, we are building a brighter future for STEM and space science in Africa.

Applications are now open for the PAP2SN Scholarship Programme 2026.

PAP2SN is a fully funded academic mobility programme advancing Planetary Science, Space Science & Technology across Africa through collaboration, research, and innovation.

The programme offers opportunities for:
β€’ Master’s degrees
β€’ PhD studies
β€’ Short-term staff mobility

Scholarship benefits include tuition fees, travel costs, visa expenses, insurance, monthly stipends, and research support.

Eligibility:
Applications are open to African nationals or residents with backgrounds in Physics, Astronomy, Space Technology, Remote Sensing, and related fields. Applicants must apply to a partner institution outside their country of origin.

50% of scholarships are reserved for women and candidates from disadvantaged or marginalised groups.
