Hands-on learning in action at Kitwe Vocational Training Centre (KVTC)!

These snapshots capture students in the Heavy Equipment Operator (HEO) Programme during their practical training sessions, building the skills, safety discipline and confidence needed to operate heavy machinery in Zambia's mining, construction and infrastructure sectors.

Enrolment reached 605 trainees, 202% of the target of 300. Of these, 594 successfully graduated, a 98% completion rate and 238% of the graduation target of 250. Women made up 32% of graduates, a proud sign that heavy equipment operation is a career open to everyone.

Delivered through a TEVETA-accredited curriculum and guided by certified trainers, the programme combines classroom learning with real time on the machines, so graduates are ready for the job from day one.

This programme is made possible through the partnership of the Government of the Republic of Zambia, the Government of Japan, Hitachi Construction Machinery Zambia Co., Limited and UNIDO - United Nations Industrial Development Organization.

31% of KVTC's Heavy Equipment Operator graduates are women. 💪

That's 1 in 3, training on the same machines, earning the same certification, building the same careers as their male counterparts. Skills have no gender.
