*GRADE 4 CBC IMPLEMENTATION IMPLICATIONS*

It should be noted that next year 2026 grade 4 will start implementing the CBC curriculum. What that entails is that

1. Grade 4 will now be under middle primary. This section will have G5 to G7 under OBC and G4 under CBC. This move will widen middle primary until OBC will be phased out. Instead of it having 3 grades as usual it will have 4 grades in the transitional period.

2. Time frame for classes will be extended to suit middle primary. Time tabling committees should look and prepare timetables according to the curriculum framework.

3. There is no CTS but individual subjects. These are TS which will be compulsory and a learner has to choose between Expressive arts or Home Economics. Take note that the subject choice will heavily determine which curriculum pathway the learner will take in form 1. This means that serious guidance should be made before choosing the subject as this may affect the outcome of the learner.

4. SBA will be introduced in grade 4. ECZ will have to prepare new guidelines for grade 4 as they follow a different layout from OBC guidelines which had CTS as one subject segmented in three subjects. SBA is vital as it will accumulate to the final exam in grade 6.

5. Due to lack of textbooks, schools have to print modules in case they don't receive any materials by next year.
