🌿 Sunday Reflection: Leadership Rooted in Faith and Service 🌿

As we reflect on the experiences of the past week, we give thanks for the opportunity our selected prefects, accompanied by their Prefect Patron, Mr. Chisanga, to attend the Catholic Schools Leadership Training for Prefects held on 30th May 2026 at Caritas Secondary School in Kabwe.

The training brought together student leaders from various Catholic schools under the theme "Leadership Rooted in Family Values and Christian Faith."

One of the most inspiring aspects of the training was hearing how our student leaders reflected on the lessons they learned.

Our Head Boy, Christon Mbilima, shared that leaders should always look to Christ as their example. He encouraged fellow leaders to be confident in who they are and not to be discouraged by failure, reminding us that leadership is not about perfection but about learning, growing and remaining faithful to our values.

Vice Head Boy, Nathan Simengwa, reflected that leadership is service. He noted that a badge, title, or necktie does not make someone a leader; rather, it is one's actions, character, and willingness to serve others that truly define leadership.

Our Head Girl, Faith Mubanga, shared that leadership is not about impressing people but about making a positive impact. She reflected that leadership goes beyond wearing a badge or holding a position; it is about understanding one's purpose, taking responsibility, and knowing how to guide others in the right direction.

Vice Head Girl, Cecilia Mwanakatwe, reflected that good leadership begins with putting God first in everything. She emphasized the importance of leading with patience, hope, and love, especially when serving and guiding others.

As we mark this Sunday, these reflections remind us that true leadership is rooted in faith, humility, service, and purpose. Leadership is not measured by the position we hold, but by the positive influence we have on others and the example we set each day.

We extend our gratitude to the organizers of the training and to Mr. Chisanga for accompanying and supporting our student leaders throughout this enriching experience.

May the lessons learned continue to guide our young leaders as they serve the school community with integrity, compassion, and commitment.

🙏 Have a blessed and reflective Sunday.

📖 Sh*tima Story Thursday – Special Edition (Part 3)

As we come to the end of our journey toward the Bicentennial of the death of Father André Coindre on May 30, 2026, we reflect this week on the lasting legacy he left behind a legacy that continues to inspire hope, faith, and purpose in young people around the world.

🌟 The Response: A Legacy That Lives On
By: Sh*tima Secondary School

What is a legacy? A legacy is the lasting impact of a life lived with purpose the influence that continues even after someone is gone.

Although Father André Coindre passed away in 1826, the mission he began did not end. The vision he carried in his heart continued to grow through the Brothers of the Sacred Heart and all those who believed in the importance of guiding and educating the young.

What began in France slowly spread across the world, reaching thousands of young people through schools, ministries, and communities dedicated to formation and hope.

Today, the Brothers of the Sacred Heart serve in more than 30 countries across different continents, continuing the mission first inspired by Father André Coindre. Schools and ministries connected to this mission can be found in places such as the United States, Canada, Uganda, Mozambique, Lesotho, the United Kingdom, and Zambia.

Through these communities, generations of young people have been given opportunities to learn, grow, and believe in a brighter future.

Here at Sh*tima School, that same legacy continues every single day. It is seen in our classrooms, in moments of prayer, in sports, in service, in discipline, and in the values that continue to shape our school community.
Two hundred years later, the mission still lives on…

🥁 Drum roll… 🥁

It lives in every lesson taught with patience.
It lives in every act of kindness shared freely.
It lives in every young person encouraged to keep hoping.
And so, as this Special Edition series comes to an end…
We pause… but only for a moment.
Because tomorrow… we celebrate his legacy.

✨ Ametur Cor Jesu. Ametur Cor Mariae. ✨

📖 Sh*tima Story Thursday – Special Edition (Part 2)

As we continue our journey toward the Bicentennial of the death of Father André Coindre on May 30, 2026, we reflect this week on another value that shaped his mission: kindness.

🌟 The Response, Kindness in Action
By: Sh*tima Secondary School

What is kindness? Kindness is the choice to treat others with care, compassion, and humanity especially when they are overlooked or struggling.

For André Coindre, kindness was not something expressed only through words. It was revealed through the way he responded to people society had forgotten. After witnessing the suffering caused by the French Revolution, he encountered many young people living without guidance, education, or hope. Many were abandoned, vulnerable, and ignored by those around them.

But André Coindre chose to see them differently.

Where others saw problems, he saw potential. Where others kept their distance, he chose presence. He understood that sometimes the greatest act of kindness is helping someone believe their life still has value.

As he continued his priestly mission, this kindness became visible in the work he devoted himself to. He reached out to vulnerable children and young people, offering not only support, but dignity, direction, and the opportunity for a better future.

This spirit of kindness eventually led him to found the Sisters of Jesus and Mary in 1818 and later the Brothers of the Sacred Heart in 1821 communities dedicated to educating and guiding the young.

For André Coindre, kindness was never weakness. It was the courage to care, to guide and to stand beside those who needed hope.

And perhaps this is the reminder his story leaves with us today: small acts of kindness can shape lives in ways we may never fully see.

Today, in preparation for African Freedom Day, our learners gathered to watch Sarafina! a film that encouraged reflection on freedom, education, leadership, and the choices people make during difficult times.

The film presented powerful lessons that extended beyond entertainment. Learners observed themes of courage, unity, perseverance, and the importance of education. At the same time, they also witnessed how anger, conflict, and certain actions can lead to painful consequences, including loss, imprisonment, and suffering.

Even in its quieter moments, the experience remained meaningfulwhere simply being together and observing became part of the learning itself. Through these moments, learners were reminded that while standing for what is right is important, it should also be guided by responsibility, wisdom, respect for human life, and peaceful ways of creating positive change.

The experience sparked different emotions laughter, reflection, and moments of deep thought showing that meaningful learning often comes from engaging with stories that challenge us to think critically and learn valuable life lessons.

✨ A Lesson in Compassion ✨

“Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.” – Mother Teresa of Calcutta

On Friday 15/05/2026 , we were honoured to visit one of the facilities run by the Missionary Sisters of Mother Teresa in Kabwe.

It is difficult to fully put into words what we encountered there. In the smiles, the welcome and the quiet strength of those we met, something within us shifted.
We went expecting to give encouragement, kindness, presence but we left having received far more than we offered.
There was a gentleness in the atmosphere, a love that is not announced but lived. In that space, we were reminded that compassion is not measured by greatness, but by sincerity in the smallest acts. This is where the words of Scripture took on a living meaning for us:

“Whatever you did for one of the least of these… you did for me.” – Gospel of Matthew 25:40

In that moment, we understood this to mean that every act of love and care shown to those in need is not ordinary service, but something sacred an encounter with God present in the lives of others.
We left quietly changed more aware, more grateful and more mindful of the power of simple love lived sincerely.

May we never overlook the power of small acts done with great love.

📖 Sh*tima Story Thursday – Special Edition (Part 1)

As we journey toward the Bicentennial of the death of Father André Coindre on May 29th, 2026, we begin a special three-part reflection on the life, mission, and legacy of the man whose vision continues to shape the spirit of schools like Sh*tima Secondary School.

🌟 The Man Who Saw Brokenness – And Chose Compassion
By: Sh*tima Secondary School

What is compassion? Compassion means seeing suffering and choosing to care enough to respond. But compassion is only powerful when it moves from understanding into how we see the world and in André Coindre’s life, that shift began early.

Born in 1787 in Lyon, France, André Coindre grew up during the turmoil of the French Revolution a time when fear and poverty left many children abandoned and vulnerable in the streets. But what shaped him most was not the chaos itself it was what he chose to see within it.

Where many saw inconvenience or disorder, André Coindre saw children who had been forgotten. He saw lives without guidance, voices without protection, and futures without direction. That awareness began to form something deep within him: compassion not as a feeling, but as a responsibility.

As he later grew into priesthood, this compassion became even more personal. He encountered young people who had been pushed aside by society, carrying wounds no one had taken time to notice. Instead of turning away, he listened, he observed, and he allowed their suffering to move him into action. It was in these quiet encounters that his understanding of compassion was born the kind that does not look away, does not remain distant, and does not wait for perfect conditions to help.

This is the foundation of his story: not institutions, not achievements, but a heart that refused to ignore those who were suffering.

And perhaps this is where the Sh*tima journey begins too: with the choice to notice, to care, and to respond with humanity.
