ANIMAL FARM

Old Major’s speech and short quotations

· Our lives are miserable, laborious and short.

· The life of an animal is miserable and slavery.

· Remove man from the scene and the root cause of hunger and overwork is abolished forever.

· All animals are comrades, all men are enemies.

· All animals are equal.

These were animals complaining about how they miserably lived and how they were being overworked at the farm.

The owner of the farm had no passion for them at all. They therefore planned of a revolution to remove man from the scene because they considered a man/human as an enemy. They managed to overthrow the owner, Mr Jones, out of the farm. The animals decided to destroy the instruments which Mr Jones and his men used in torturing them-Nose rings, dog chains, knives and many more. They, however, decided to keep Mr Jones’ house as a museum. Hence the change of the farm name from Manor farm to Animal farm. They even changed the flag to mark independence and simplify the philosophy of Animalism to seven commandments:

· Whatever goes upon two legs is an enemy.

· Whatever goes upon four legs or has wings is a friend.

· No animal shall wear clothes.

· No animal shall sleep in bed.

· No animal shall drink alcohol.

· No animal shall drink kill any other animal.

· All animals are equal.

After the expulsion of Mr Jones, the animals address themselves as ‘comrades’ meaning equality, brotherhood and solidarity, it captures the true meaning of Animalism.

After they gained their independence, the animals made committees for different categories of themselves. Due to these changes, the seven commandments were tempered with because other animals became ‘more equal’ than others, hence the killing of innocent animals deemed inferior.

Other animals are heard singing ‘four legs better, two legs better’-insinuating that a man is better when they initially considered him

good evening Comrades, this is a platform that we have yet provided to encourage and promote reading and writing culture among ourselves.
From Monday to Friday, we will be having some different interesting articles and/or stories to that effect.
On weekends, we will reading a particular chapter of any of the famous books.
Its a shame that black people are deemed to be ignorant of books hence the famous SAY which goes "if you want to hide something from a black person, put it in writing/a book". But I guess I have a different thought about it.
