‎As Zambia prepares to announce it's 2027 National Budget, Lizu Community Network brings you a Pre-Budget Civic Education & Capacity Building Webinar, designed to equip Citizens with practical knowledge on how Zambia’s national budget cycle works, how to analyse budget allocations, and how citizens can participate in monitoring public resources.

‎Participants will have an opportunity to join the Lizu Community Citizen Budget Watch—a Citizen-owned initiative to continuously support engagements throughout the recurring budget cycle and advocate for equitable resource allocation in their local respective communities.

THE BIRTH OF EVERYTHING SUSTAINBLE DEVELOPMENT FOR LOCAL CITIES AND COMMUNITIES 🥳

We are more than excited to have kick started when we evision as one of the biggest platforms to champion sustainable development in local cities and communities, starting with chipata city.

Today young, though challenged by internet connectivity, met to kickstart the discussion on the platform; Everything Sustainable Development (ESD), this time for Chipata City and local communities.

36 young people signed with between 8 consistent to 20 droping out in attendance.

One of the items on the agenda was to set the sustainable developpmental Agenda for the city.

In the pictures are screen shots of the meeting in progress and a Word Cloud page showing some priority items on the agenda that young people are expecting to see.

Ladies and Gentlemen, fellow citizens in serves as a Commercial Hub for the entire Eastern province. For so long now, Chipata city’s economy is known to be driven by Agriculture. Our hard working and wise men and women from Chipata have for the past years produced cash crops such as cotton, maize, to***co, soya beans, sunflower, groundnuts, and potatoes, contributing largely to Zambia's ecconomic growth. These crops have boosted both local and cross border trade and commerce and also puts Chipata on the Lusaka-Chipata Agriculture Corridor.

Other economic activities on record wil be discussed during this meeting

Meet Cheleka, a civic leader, who currently serves as Team Lead at Lizu Community Network, where he promotes digital rights, literacy, and good governance through community dialogues, leadership, integrity programs, and technical innovations. He leads initiatives focused on internet freedom, digital security, and social accountability across Eastern Province and broader regional networks. Active within pan-African internet governance spaces, his work bridges civic technology, community media outreach, and youth empowerment to drive meaningful local change

GUESS WHO IS JOINING OUR UPCOMING DISCUSSION?
Emmanuel S. Banda will be joining us this 26th September, 2026 between17:00 and 19:00.

Before becoming a city in 2017, Chipata has seen a number of evolutional changes, notably being that of 1980, through the local government Act cap 281, Chipata District Council was formed.
In September 1991, Chipata District Council was upgraded to the Municipality status, which was a right step to greatness.
And in 2017, 24th February, it was elevated to a City from the municipality status, having met all the requirements.

hese great and evolutional historic and yet important changes that have led to what Chipata City is today

He Tech4Accountability Lead at Lizu Community Network and a Media and Information Literacy trainer and Internet Governance enthusiast.

With over 5 years of experience, he works across digital rights, civic participation, social accountability and Internet Governance. At Lizu, he uses technology, data, digital literacy and community-led innovation to improve access to information, make civic participation easier and support communities to hold duty-bearers accountable
