SCHOOL BOOKS
Description of Books
A book is a teaching and learning material that is used by teachers and the learners for teaching and learning purposes. It usually has a cover page and book pages. A book can be plain or well marked with straight lines for taking notes or box lines for writing numerical figures.
Types of Books
In a learning institution such as a school, the required books may include textbook, guidebooks, notebooks, study books and exercise books.
1. Text books=Used as a reference material.
2. Guide books=Used as a reference material.
3. Note books=Used for writing lesson notes.
4. Study books=Used for writing revision notes
5. Exercise Books=Used for writing class assignments.
Uses of Books
1. For taking down lesson notes for reference.
2. For recording the key terms in a particular topic.
3. For writing down the main points of a lesson.
4. For jolting down class assignments, exercises and tasks.
TEXT BOOK
Description of Text Books
A textbook is a book that is used by teachers and learners as a reference material for teaching and learning purposes.
Types of Text Books
1. Prescribed Textbooks
A prescribed textbook is a major textbook that is set as a primary reference material for a particular in a learning institution. For instance a department, section, faculty or school in a learning institution may recommend a text book such as L. Muunyu 10-12 Physics as the Prescribed Textbook for Physics at Kafisashi Secondary School by the Physics Department.
2. Recommended Textbooks
3. A recommended textbook is a minor textbook that is set as a secondary reference material by a learning institution. For example the textbooks; Explaining Physics, Certificate Physics, Essentials of Physics, Tom Duncan Physics may be the Recommended Textbooks for Physics at Kafisashi Secondary School by the Physics Section.

Uses of Text Books
1. They are used as reference materials.

3. They are used for studying lesson content.
GUIDE BOOK
Description of Guide Books
A guidebook is a book that outlines the useful information about a particular textbook. It highlights the main points, key terms, learner tasks, practical experiments and research tasks. It also gives an overview and details of a reference text book such as a prescribed textbook.
Types of Guide Books
1. Teacher’s Guide: Written for teachers.
2. Learner’s Guide: Written for learners.
Uses of Guide Books
1. Explains the chapters of a textbook.
2. Outlines the topics of a textbook.
3. Explores the key terms of a textbook.
4. Amplifies the learning points in a textbook.

NOTE BOOK
Description of Notebooks
A notebook is a book for recording lesson notes in a learning institution.
It is mostly ruled with a margin line and straight-lines for writing notes.
It is usually owned by the learners.
Types of Notebooks
1. Writing Notebook: It has straight lines for writing descriptive words.
2. Drawing Notebook: It has plain papers for drawing pictorial images.
3. Mathematical Notebook: It has box lines for recording numerical figures.
Uses of Notebooks
1. For writing lesson notes.
2. For drawing pictorial images.
3. For solving mathematical problems.

STUDY BOOK
Description of Study Books
A study book is a book for writing revision notes by the learner when attending prep.
Types of Study Books
1. Revision Study Book: For writing notes on a lesson topic.
2. Research Study Book: For writing notes on a research topic.

Uses of Study Books
1. For simplifying lesson notes of a topic.
2. For taking note of the main points of a topic.
3. For highlighting the key terms of a topic.

ASSIGNMENT BOOK
Description of Assessment Books
An assessment book is a book for writing down class tasks given in a classroom for assessment purposes.
Types of Exercise Books
1. Assignment Book: For writing class assignments that needs to be marked a after a class lesson.
2. Exercise Book: For writing class exercises that needs to be marked immediately during the class lesson.
