Ons einddoel is nie net om ’n matrieksertifikaat te kry nie. Ons einddoel is om jongmense groot te maak wat voorbereid is vir die lewe, die werkplek en die geleenthede wat voorlê.

Elke gesin se pad lyk anders. Hierdie is die pad wat vir ons kinders die meeste sin maak, en ons is opgewonde oor wat die toekoms vir hulle inhou. ❤️

Ons gebruik nou al amper ’n maand die X-Pen vir ons tuisskool en dit is regtig ’n game changer. Dit vat wel ’n bietjie tyd om daaraan gewoond te raak, maar sodra jy dit bemeester het, maak dit ’n groot verskil.

Die pen het verskeie tale om van te kies. Afrikaans werk egter net wanneer dit aan WiFi gekoppel is, terwyl Engels ook offline beskikbaar is. Soms was daar aanvanklik frustrasie wanneer die Afrikaanse opsie gebruik word en die gescande sin nie altyd perfek voorgelees word nie, maar ons het dit nou onder die knie gekry en dit gebeur nie meer gereeld nie.

Die pen het nie ’n ingeboude woordeboek nie, wat wel nuttig sou wees, maar omdat ons dit vir tuisskool gebruik, werk dit steeds baie goed in kombinasie met teks-na-spraak en ChatGPT.

Die kinders gebruik die pen om vrae te lees tydens opdragte. Daarna antwoord hulle die vrae mondelings, en teks-na-spraak skakel hul gesproke antwoorde om in geskrewe teks. Dit maak skryf en spel baie makliker en verminder die druk van handmatige skryfwerk.

Die antwoorde word daarna in PDF-formaat gestoor en gemerk.

Woorde wat hulle nie verstaan nie, word apart geskandeer om die korrekte uitspraak te hoor. Die stem klink natuurlik en nie robotagtig nie.

Daarna gebruik hulle ChatGPT om moeilike woorde en betekenisse op te soek, wat ook help om hul Engelse woordeskat te verbeter. Die pen het ook Bluetooth, wat handig is as hulle oorfone wil gebruik.

Op hulle webwerf is daar ook video-instruksies om die toestel op te stel. Alhoewel die webwerf tans nie altyd goed op iPhone werk nie, stel ek voor dat jy eerder via ’n rekenaar of ander toestel inlog om die handleidings en video’s te bekyk.

Indien jy meer as een pen bestel, moet jy kennis neem van die koerierkoste. Dit word per eenheid bereken en via PUDO gestuur. So vir twee penne betaal jy dubbel koerierkoste, al gaan die pakkie na dieselfde adres toe. Dit maak nie heeltemal sin nie, aangesien meeste aanlyn koerierdienste ’n enkel vaste bedrag vir aflewering hef ongeag hoeveelheid items. Dit was my enigste werklike frustrasie.

Hierdie toestel het ons benadering tot tuisskool baie verander en die frustrasie vir die kinders aansienlik verminder.

We have been using the X-Pen for almost a month in our homeschooling setup, and it has truly been a game changer. It does take some time to get used to, but once you understand how it works, it makes a big difference.

The pen supports multiple languages. However, Afrikaans only works when connected to WiFi, while English is also available offline. At first, there was some frustration when using the Afrikaans option, as scanned sentences were not always read perfectly, but we have now mastered it and this issue rarely occurs anymore.

The pen does not have a built-in dictionary, which would be useful, but since we use it for homeschooling, it works very well in combination with text-to-speech and ChatGPT.

The children use the pen to read questions during assignments. They then answer the questions verbally, and text-to-speech converts their spoken answers into written text. This makes writing and spelling much easier and reduces the pressure of manual writing.

The answers are then saved in PDF format and marked.

Words they do not understand are scanned separately to hear correct pronunciation. The voice sounds natural and not robotic.

They also use ChatGPT to look up difficult words and meanings, which is helping improve their English vocabulary. The pen also has Bluetooth support, which is useful when they want to use headphones.

The website also provides video instructions for setting up the device. However, the site does not always function well on iPhone, so I would recommend logging in via a computer or another device to access the tutorials and videos properly.

If you order more than one pen, take note of the courier costs. These are calculated per unit and shipped via PUDO. This means you end up paying double courier fees for two pens, even if they are delivered to the same address. This does not really make sense, as most courier services charge a single delivery fee regardless of quantity. This was my only real frustration.

This device has significantly changed our homeschooling approach and has greatly reduced frustration for the children.

Math is at the top of our list because we are not following the CAPS curriculum at all. I felt that the CAPS math workload is often unnecessary and overwhelming for children with learning difficulties, so I spent a lot of time researching different approaches to find a program that truly works.

After many discussions and intensive research, I decided on the Math-U-See program.

Math-U-See is an international math curriculum, and one of the things I really appreciate is that the student materials are clear, structured, and easy to follow, even for independent learning. Lessons are also taught by Steve Demme through video instruction (now available online or via DVDs for those who prefer a more affordable or offline option).

What makes this program truly unique is its structure and the fact that it works exceptionally well for:

* children with learning difficulties
* learners who struggle with math confidence
* students who have gaps in their foundational understanding

The curriculum is divided into levels (Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, Epsilon, Zeta, and beyond into Pre-Algebra and Algebra).

Each level includes:

* Teacher Manual
* Student Workbook
* Test Book
* Video Instruction (online or DVD-based lessons)

For example, Gamma focuses on single- and multi-digit multiplication. The concept of multiplication is broken down step-by-step in detail, rather than rushing through topics. Each chapter builds carefully on the previous one, with consistent review and reinforcement.

One of the key tools used in Math-U-See is the manipulative blocks, which help make abstract math concepts visual and hands-on. This supports multi-sensory learning — seeing, hearing, and physically working with numbers — which is especially helpful for children who struggle with traditional math methods.

There are not “52 different methods” for solving one problem. Instead, the program focuses on one clear method with consistent repetition until mastery is achieved.

The children absolutely enjoy the program, and as a parent, it is extremely helpful because I can quickly identify where learning gaps are and address them immediately.

Another important benefit is that Math-U-See can be used all the way through high school and may count toward credits in an American high school diploma or homeschool transcript, depending on how the program is documented and assessed.

Overall, it has given us structure, confidence, and clarity in math — without the stress and overwhelm of traditional approaches.
