Congratulations to Honours student Sancia van Niekerk who won first prize at "The beauty of Astronomy" art competition launched by the University of Western Cape.

The competition celebrated the intersection of art and astronomy. Artists are exploring the wonders of the universe through their unique artistic lens.

"This competition is more than just showcasing artistic talent. It’s about rewriting the narrative about Africa. By sharing your stories, experiences, and encounters with astronomy through your art, you’ll help dismantle misconceptions and reveal the true essence of Africa – a continent brimming with cultural richness, diversity, and boundless potential."

The Dept of Art and Music's Transformation Committee held a book launch for Dept Lecturer Dr Evans Netshivhambe's new book, "Invisible Or Ignored: The Status of Indigenous South African Instruments in The Venda Society". You are invited to the first Happening of the year for the Department of Art and Music, titled "Invisible or Ignored" after Dr. Evans Netshivhambe's book:

Invisible or Ignored: The Status of Indigenous South African Instruments in the Venda Society.

This event will be a book launch featuring contributions from colleagues across the different disciplines within the Art Department. The roundtable discussion participants will be Dr Evans Ntshengedzeni Netshivhambe (author) Dr. Annemie Behr (Music), Ms. Boitumelo Kembo (Art History), Mr. Bernett Nkwayi Mulungo (Music), and Mr. Lawrence Lemaoana (Visual Art).

The program is scheduled for Thursday, April 18th, at 11:00 AM in the Kgorong Building, Bamboo Conference Room. The program will also feature music by Dr. Netshivhambe.
