Practical Value and Institutional Impact

For internationalisation to make a meaningful difference, the insights and approaches gained through professional development need to translate into practical action and institutional impact.

In this video, Dr Cebisa Nkhumeleni and Dr Razaana Denson, past participants of the Internationalisation of Higher Education Leadership Programme, reflect on their experience and the practical value the programme brought to their work and institutions.

Their reflections highlight the importance of learning from others, challenging existing approaches, and taking new ideas back into our institutions to strengthen internationalisation in meaningful and sustainable ways.

Who gets to shape the narrative on internationalisation?

For too long, internationalisation has often been framed through perspectives and frameworks shaped in the Global North. But what happens when we own the narrative and develop approaches that are grounded in our own contexts, priorities and realities?

In this short video, two past participants, Mr Prajesh Bhikha and Ms Martina Moss, share their perspectives on the importance of South Africa and the wider African higher education sector shaping its own internationalisation agenda, moving beyond prescribed approaches and exploring new ways of thinking, collaborating and engaging globally.

The Leadership for Internationalisation of Higher Education Programme creates space for senior higher education professionals to question conventional approaches, exchange perspectives and explore Africa-centred approaches to internationalisation from the Global South.
