Nelson Mandela University recently welcomed executives from ISUZU Motors South Africa to the School of Engineering as part of the ongoing ISUZU Chair in Mechatronics partnership. The visit highlighted the strong collaboration between academia and industry, focused on developing future engineering talent through student projects, vacation training, mentoring, and industry engagement. Discussions also explored opportunities in emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, while reinforcing a shared commitment to enhancing student employability and addressing the evolving needs of the manufacturing sector.

Engineering talent needs more than classroom learning; it needs real-world experience. ​This Youth Month, we're celebrating the power of education and industry collaboration to prepare young people for successful careers.​

Through its long-standing partnership with Nelson Mandela University, Isuzu Motors South Africa has invested more than R1 million in the ISUZU Chair of Mechatronics since 2018. This investment supports engineering student projects, industry mentorship, and practical learning opportunities, helping to develop the next generation of skilled engineers.

By connecting 300 students with experienced engineers and real-world challenges, the partnership helps bridge the gap between theory and practice, equipping future engineers with the skills, confidence and industry insights needed to succeed in the working world.​
