The Stellenbosch Socratic Journal (SSJ) presents our very first publication!

The SSJ published their first volume of the journal in November 2021. This journal strives to be a platform that gives the students of Stellenbosch University's Philosophy Department the opportunity to submit and publish their work in a peer-reviewed journal. If you are interested in submitting your work to our journal, or searching for something interesting to read, please follow the following link: https://www0.sun.ac.za/philosophy/socratic-society/stellenbosch-socratic-journal/

A friendly reminder about the online event regarding Big Data, tomorrow evening! We hope to see you there. Remember to send an email or scan the QR code on the poster to join.

18/05/2021

Hello there, fellow philosophers! We hope you are all well and in the mood for some philosophizing. On 25 May 2021, the Socratic Society will be hosting an online event about Big Data. It will take place from 19:00 to 22:00.

Join James Smith and Josie Roux as they present on Big Data. James will be discussing issues of privacy and autonomy that have arisen in the age of Big Data and Josie will address issues of surveillance. Watch them online as they discuss Big Data watching you.

Get comfy with coffee and snacks as the weather gets cooler, and join in the discussion that follows after the presentation.

How do you join? All you have to do is register for the event via the email address or by scanning the QR code. Then you just have to sit and wait for a link to be sent to you before the event.

We hope to see you there! Have a good week and stay tuned for more exciting things to follow!

Dearest Philosophers 🎓 We know that lockdown has been rough. We know that things aren’t easy. But we also know that, although it can often be a contributing factor to existential dread, philosophy can sometimes be a great way to combat it! So, we are going to start sending out a fortnightly email with recommendations for some great philosophy-related articles, videos, and dank memes 👽 if you aren’t already on the mailing list but would like to receive the reading list, please comment your email address below or send us a DM!
Yours in anguish, the Socratic Society
