HORTGRO formally recognised dr Elke Crouch for her lifetime contribution to research, science, and technology within the deciduous fruit industry by presenting her with the prestigious Daan Strydom Science and Technology Award at their annual gala event at the Lord Charles Hotel in Somerset West.

As a faculty and department, we are exceptionally proud of dr Crouch — not only for her outstanding academic and research achievements, but also for her passion and dedicated leadership.

🏆 Celebrating excellence in global food microbiology!

A proud moment for Stellenbosch University and the Faculty of AgriSciences as Professor Pieter Gouws from the Department of Food Science, was honoured at the closing ceremony of FoodMicro 2026 conference in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

Professor Gouws received an award recognising his outstanding service to global food microbiology and hygiene, global leadership, and innovative research.

This prestigious recognition celebrates not only his individual contribution to the field, but also the impact of research and expertise from Stellenbosch University on the global food science community.

Congratulations, Professor Gouws, on this well-deserved achievement! Your leadership and commitment to advancing food microbiology continue to inspire.

The reward was presented to prof Gouws by Prof Andreja Rajkovic (Ghent University), the President of ICFMH.
