This week, Chevanni Davids takes us through a reasoning that connects regeneration to liberation and deschooling in brilliant, thought-provoking ways. If you are the type to geek out on the ways that personal leadership and community organizing collaborate and create a person’s drive and shifts their thinking, this is an episode just for you! Enjoy! “This is an intention that is constructed on convergence of human creativity and working together towards a sustainable future. It's a meeting point for diverse amounts of knowledge, ability, intellect and spirituality. It's a holistic space . A place where sciences, art, self-exploration and development and spirituality are woven together.” -- Chevanni Davids about Antiuniversity Ecoversity of South Afrika: Non-institutional Learning and Education

When we set out to put together the gathering we had very little ideas what it would look like - we had plans in place & these were challenged at times (a few times)... but every challenge was overridden by support from community gathered at the serene Soweto Equestrian Centre OR we learned that it didn’t matter if it wasn’t all ‘perfect’ .... it was perfectly imperfect, very life like actually .... connections were made, conversations were had - and not those pussyfooting conversation- but really genuine conversation... these weren’t conversations for the sake of it but the intention behind them is certainly going to be evident...
We continue to ...

The Soweto Home/Unschoolers, Growing Minds and Re-Imagined Learning Centre hosted the first of hopefully many more Decolonise! UnConferences. Discussions were powerful and brave and insightful. The community coming together is inspiring. The revolution that looks like love and strength and owning our learning journeys...

If we can produce young people who can define themselves outside of certification, outside of accumulation of things, outside of approval or one upping others, much of the country’s problems will be eliminated, because people will look at what they’re capable of, do that for a living and to contribute to society, instead of wasting time begging someone to recognise you as a worthy human so they can offer you a minimum wage salary.

Decolonise! UnConference
A space, an idea, a feeling and a time to connect, share, learn and grow together towards other ways of being, living, learning and connecting. We will explore visions of a new anti oppressive, liberated community through a decolonisation lens.
Some of the ideas we’ll be exploring:
Parenting
Children are people
Ancestral Wisdom
Learning Community
Unschooling
African centred knowledges and knowledge systems
Who we are:
We, Soweto Home/Unschoolers, Growing Minds and Re-imagined LEarning centre are a collective working on social change through unschooling, homeschooling and self directed education through and with community.
Soweto Home/Unschoolers:
The Soweto Home/Unschoolers of a collective that’s been rocking Soweto for the past year. From hosting Akilah Richards at the Raising Free People talk, to organising regular gatherings for crafts, horse riding and golf, always dreaming up ways for deepening community and for a more beautiful future for our children and the community we live in
Growing Minds is an exploration of ideas on decolonising parenting, childhood and education. Ideas that are expressed through writings on the website and on and offline gatherings
