Happy Youth Day! 🇿🇦

Today we celebrate the young people of South Africa - their curiosity, creativity, resilience, and potential.

At The Honeybush Collective, we believe every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and flourish in a nurturing environment where they are seen, valued, and encouraged to become the very best version of themselves.

Wishing everyone a meaningful Youth Day.

This morning one of our students chose a kalimba from our music basket, and just started playing a beautiful little tune!

The kalimba, also known as a thumb piano, is a traditional African musical instrument, played by gently plucking metal tines with the thumbs to create its distinctive, melodic sound. We love seeing our children explore music!

Our Grade 3s have been making beautiful tin lanterns in preparation for our upcoming bonfire night! 🔥

We filled tins with water and froze them overnight so that the ice would hold the shape of the tin. This clever trick allowed the children to safely hammer nails into the tins without denting them, creating intricate patterns for light to shine through once a candle is placed inside.

There was much excitement as each child designed their own unique lantern. We can’t wait to see them glowing on bonfire night!

Last Friday we had a super fun day!

One of our Grade 5s stepped into the role of teacher for the day, and Teacher Zoe did an outstanding job! She carefully prepared worksheets and activities for every grade (days in advance!) and confidently guided her classmates through the day’s lessons with care and enthusiasm. Even Teacher Caitlin became a student for the morning and had to take part in a spelling test!

Our multigrade environment creates unique opportunities for children to develop leadership skills, confidence, and responsibility in a warm, supportive setting.

The children could bring a special soft toy to school and enjoyed sharing these with their class. We had from a 43-year-old dog, to teddies children were given on the day they were born! To end off the chilly winter’s day, everyone enjoyed yummy gourmet hot chocolate together!

We love being a part of the community!

Over the past few months, our principal, Fran Denton, has been attending their monthly networking sessions, building connections with fellow female business owners and entrepreneurs in our community. These mornings have provided valuable opportunities not only to share the story of The Honeybush Collective, but also to learn from inspiring women in business about topics ranging from content creation to customer service.

Each woman has the opportunity to give a short presentation about their business, which has allowed us to introduce more families to The Honeybush Collective and our unique approach to education.

The meetings are hosted by the lovely at - her charming bookshop in Beach Road, Strand. With great coffee, excellent carrot cake, and many books, it’s the perfect setting for a morning of networking.

We are grateful to be part of a supportive community of women who champion one another’s businesses and celebrate each other’s successes. We look forward to many more inspiring mornings with Mom’s Biz Network!

Last week we enjoyed a wonderful outing to the !

We spent the morning exploring the organic garden, learning about winter vegetables, composting, bokashi, recycling, worm farming, and natural pest control. The children smelled herbs, picked carrots, measured the temperature of a compost heap, observed a worm farm, and planted their own pea seeds to take home.

We were so inspired to learn about the incredible work being done at SWVG - a community project that supports people experiencing homelessness through meaningful work in the garden. For every hour worked, a token is received and may be exchanged for a warm plate of food, a hot shower, or clean clothes at and .

A huge thank you to Jenny and Roz for sharing their knowledge and passion with us. The children left inspired and eager to encourage others to support SWVG and the amazing work they are doing. 🌱

Happy Birthday dear Teacher Lindy!

As we celebrate Teacher Lindy’s birthday, we are reminded just how fortunate we are to have her in our Honeybush community.

Teacher Lindy is one of those rare people whose warmth, kindness, and genuine care touch everyone around her. She is a motherly figure not only to the children, but to all of us. Her gentle nature, wisdom, and deep understanding of children shine through in everything she does.

Her dedication, guidance, and unwavering belief in our children have helped shape The Honeybush Collective into the beautiful school it is today. We could not be more grateful to have someone like Teacher Lindy teaching, nurturing, and inspiring our children.

Happy Birthday Teacher Lindy, and thank you for all that you are. 💛🐝
