Not often are we presented with the opportunity to meet a man who has shaped South African society or come face-to-face with somebody who has indirectly saved the lives of millions of people.
On the 25th of February, the YJBF will be hosting such a man.
We are honoured to announce a third speaker for the evening: Michael ‘Motty’ Sacks.
Mr Sacks’ most notable contribution to the business world would have to be co-founding Netcare Limited. From its humble beginnings in 1996 Netcare has risen through the ranks of multinational corporations to become the largest private healthcare provider in both South Africa and the United Kingdom. This was accomplished under the leadership of Mr Sacks who served as chairman from the company’s inception until his retirement in 2011. He currently serves as the non-executive chairman of Netcare.
Mr Sacks was educated at the University of the Witwatersrand where he qualified as a chartered accountant. Following his graduation he conducted a financial consultancy practice for 25 years. During this time Mr Sacks held positions as senior partner at Sacks Consulting and Sacks and Shishler, as well as serving as an officer for the International Association of Political Consultants.
In 2006, Mr Sacks founded AfroCentric Investment Corporation with two well-known corporate giants: Mr Brian Joffe and Mr Meyer Kahn. AfroCentric is a beacon of BEE transformation in South Africa and continues to operate with Mr Sacks serving as a non-executive director and company secretary. If that is not enough, Mr Sacks is the former chairman and current Non-executive director of ADvTECH – South Africa’s largest private education institution – and has served as the director of Fedsure Holdings Ltd. since 1989.
Mr Sacks is gifted with a rare asset that is vital to the success of any businessman: creativity. He has been able to identify various opportunities in seemingly unrelated fields from which South African powerhouses have been born. His unparalleled wealth of experience was hard earned over decades of involvement and leadership in the corporate world.
