Switzerland has introduced new rules to increase transparency on animal welfare practices. 🇨🇭

Starting July 1, food labels must indicate if products of animal origin such as meat, milk, eggs or foie gras involve painful practices carried out without anesthesia or stunning. 🥚

This applies to all establishments offering such products: restaurants, small businesses, and retail outlets, with a two-year transition period to adapt. 🛍️

This measure puts the country at the forefront of European initiatives on food transparency.

At the same time, the import of fur and fur products obtained through cruel practices has been banned.

Outbreak of Foot and Mouth Disease confirmed in Free State.

The National Department of Agriculture hereby informs the public and stakeholders of a new outbreak of foot and mouth disease (FMD) in Free State.

On 10 July 2025, an FMD outbreak was confirmed on a commercial farm in the Moqhaka Local Municipality, located in the Kroonstad State Veterinary area.

The affected property was placed under quarantine on 8 July 2025, and immediate control measures were implemented, including surveillance and vaccination.
