Behind the platform is a model we have spent more than a decade building.
When the Dr CL Smith Foundation started this journey in 2013, there were few clear examples of how a social enterprise model could work in practice. We had to learn by doing. Our nonprofit entity focuses on stakeholder engagement, partnerships and project management. Our for-profit entities support implementation and delivery in a viable, sustainable manner.
This milestone reflects years of trust from government, corporate South Africa, multinational partners, civil society organisations and the people who continue to participate in the community. 40,000 speaks to the journey. It is a reminder of the potential that exists when community, data and purpose come together.

Today, we began our work with Phefeni Secondary School in Soweto, appointed by Microsoft to support the school on its Showcase School readiness journey.
Phefeni stands at the heart of South Africaโs education history. In 1976, its learners were among those who rose against an unjust system that denied them dignity, voice, and possibility.
Nearly 50 years later, we return to that history with a future-focused mandate: to help position Phefeni as a leading example of digital transformation, educator empowerment, and AI readiness in public education.
A place of resistance. Now, a place helping shape what comes next.
