Allah's Perfect Blueprint for Life
Why Allah Subḥānahu wa Taʿālā Created Us and How Islam Shows Us the Way
﷽
Khutbatul‑Hājah
Man yahdihi‑llāhu fa‑lā muḍilla lah, wa man yuḍlil fa‑lā hādiya lah. Wa ashhadu an lā ilāha illā Allāhu waḥdahu lā sharīka lah, wa ashhadu anna Muḥammadan ʿabduhu wa rasūluh.
Indeed, all praise belongs to Allah Subḥānahu wa Taʿālā. We praise Him, seek His help, seek His forgiveness, and seek refuge in Him from the evil within ourselves and from the consequences of our deeds. Whomsoever Allah guides, none can misguide; and whomsoever He allows to stray, none can guide. I bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah alone, without partner, and I bear witness that Muḥammad ﷺ is His servant and Messenger.
The Admonition of Taqwā
Yā ayyuhā alladhīna āmanū ittaqū Allāha ḥaqqa tuqātihī wa lā tamūtunna illā wa antum muslimūn.
“O you who believe! Fear Allah as He deserves to be feared, and do not die except in a state of Islam.” (Sūrah Āl ʿImrān 3:102)
Amma baʿd. As‑salāmu ʿalaykum wa raḥmatullāhi wa barakātuh,
1. Whose Blueprint Are You Following?
Every one of us is living according to a blueprint. It may be shaped by culture, family expectations, personal ambition, or the pursuit of wealth, comfort, and status. Whatever its source, it shapes our decisions and ultimately determines the direction of our lives. Whether we realise it or not, every human being is building a life according to a plan.
The question is not whether you have a blueprint. The question is: who designed it? Because every blueprint shapes what follows. If you bought the world’s most advanced motor vehicle, would you ignore the owner’s manual? If you built a house, would you refuse the architect’s plans? If you underwent a life‑saving operation, would you rather trust the surgeon—or someone who had watched a few videos online?
The answer is obvious. When something is valuable, we trust the one who created it. So why do so many people believe they can navigate life without consulting Allah al‑Khāliq (The Creator), who created life itself? Allah Subḥānahu wa Taʿālā did not create humanity and then leave it in confusion. Ar‑Raḥmān (The Most Merciful) gave us revelation. Ar‑Raḥīm (The Especially Merciful) sent messengers to every nation. He revealed a complete way of life.
Allah Taʿālā says:
“This day I have perfected for you your religion, completed My favour upon you, and have chosen Islam as your religion.” (Sūrah al‑Māʾidah 5:3)
Notice that Al‑Ḥakīm (The All‑Wise) did not merely reveal a religion. He perfected a design for living. Islam is not confined to the masjid. It is not something we practise for twenty minutes on a Friday and then leave behind until next week. Islam teaches us:
* How to worship.
* How to earn and how to spend.
* How to marry and raise children.
* How to speak and how to disagree.
* How to forgive and how to care for neighbours.
* How to treat strangers—even how to smile.
It is truly a blueprint for life, revealed by Allah al‑Ḥakīm. It is intended for every human being until the Last Day.
2. Every Human Heart Is Searching
Before many people discover Islam, they spend years searching for something they cannot name. Some search through success, others through relationships, some through entertainment or travel, and some through endless possessions. Yet despite all these pursuits, many still whisper the same question late at night: “Why do I still feel empty?”
The problem is not always that people lack enough. Often, it is that they are searching in the wrong places—seeking fulfilment in things that were never created to satisfy the soul. Allah Taʿālā reminds us:
أَلَا بِذِكْرِ اللَّهِ تَطْمَئِنُّ الْقُلُوبُ
Alā bi‑dhikri‑llāhi taṭmaʾinnu l‑qulūb.
“Indeed, it is by the remembrance of Allah that hearts find tranquillity.” (Sūrah ar‑Raʿd 13:28)
Allah Ar‑Raḥmān does not say hearts find tranquillity through wealth, careers, popularity, or power. He says they find tranquillity through remembering Him. Everything else may entertain the heart. Only Allah Subḥānahu wa Taʿālā can satisfy it. This is why some of the wealthiest people still experience emptiness, and some of the poorest believers sleep peacefully. One possesses comfort; the other possesses contentment. The difference is enormous.
3. Why Were We Created?
Every civilisation has attempted to answer this question. Philosophers debated it. Scientists investigated it. Psychologists continue to explore it. But Allah Subḥānahu wa Taʿālā answered it in one clear, timeless verse:
وَمَا خَلَقْتُ الْجِنَّ وَالْإِنسَ إِلَّا لِيَعْبُدُونِ
Wa mā khalaqtu l‑jinna wa l‑insa illā liyaʿbudūn.
“And I did not create the jinn and mankind except that they should worship Me.” (Sūrah adh‑Dhāriyāt 51:56)
This verse is often misunderstood. When many people hear the word “worship”, they immediately think of prayer alone. But Islam teaches something far greater. Worship is every sincere act done seeking the pleasure of Allah:
* A parent raising righteous children.
* A businessperson earning honestly.
* A student studying with integrity.
* A neighbour helping another.
* A husband showing kindness.
* A wife showing patience.
Even removing harm from a pathway can become worship when done for Allah. Islam does not divide life into “religious” and “ordinary”. It transforms ordinary life into worship through sincere intention. This is what makes Islam unique. It is not merely a religion you practise. It is the blueprint by which you live.
4. Allah Did Not Leave Us Without Guidance
My brothers and sisters in Islam, imagine being dropped into the middle of an unfamiliar desert. No map. No compass. No guide. Every direction would look promising, yet every wrong step could take you further from safety. This is the condition of humanity without divine guidance.
Allah Subḥānahu wa Taʿālā did not create us and then expect us to discover life’s purpose purely through trial and error. Out of His infinite mercy, He sent prophets: From Ādam ʿalayhi as‑salām, to Nūḥ ʿalayhi as‑salām, to Ibrāhīm ʿalayhi as‑salām, to Mūsā ʿalayhi as‑salām, to ʿĪsā ʿalayhi as‑salām, and finally, to Muḥammad ﷺ. Each prophet carried the same essential message: “Worship Allah alone and follow His guidance.”
The laws differed according to time and nation, but the message of tawḥīd—the oneness of Allah—remained unchanged. Allah says:
Wa laqad baʿathnā fī kulli ummatin rasūlan aniʿbudū Allāha wa‑jtanibū ṭ‑ṭāghūt.
“And We certainly sent into every nation a messenger, proclaiming: ‘Worship Allah and avoid false gods.’” (Sūrah an‑Naḥl 16:36)
Islam, therefore, is not a new religion. It is the final and complete revelation of the same divine guidance that Allah Subḥānahu wa Taʿālā has sent since the beginning of humanity. That is why Allah Taʿālā describes the Qurʾān as Hudā—guidance. It illuminates the path that leads back to Him. The Qurʾān is not merely a book to be recited beautifully or displayed on a shelf. It was revealed by Allah Subḥānahu wa Taʿālā, whose wisdom is perfect and who is Khayr al‑Mākirīn (The Best of Planners). It provides the perfect blueprint for living: teaching us not only what to believe, but how to live. A blueprint is only valuable if it is followed. Likewise, the Qurʾān transforms lives only when it moves from our shelves into our hearts, and from our hearts into our actions.
5. The Prophet ﷺ: The Living Blueprint
Even with a perfect book, humanity still needed someone to demonstrate how to live it. Allah Subḥānahu wa Taʿālā did not merely send revelation; He sent an example. He sent us Muḥammad ﷺ. Allah Taʿālā says:
Laqad kāna lakum fī Rasūli‑llāhi uswatun ḥasanah liman kāna yarjū Allāha wa‑l‑yawma l‑ākhira wa dhakara Allāha kathīrā.
“There has certainly been for you in the Messenger of Allah an excellent example for whoever hopes in Allah and the Last Day and remembers Allah often.” (Sūrah al‑Aḥzāb 33:21)
Whenever we ask:
“How should I deal with hardship?”
– look at Muḥammad ﷺ.
“How should I forgive someone who has wronged me?”
– look at Muḥammad ﷺ.
“How should I lead my family or conduct business?”
– look at Muḥammad ﷺ.
“How should I worship?”
– look at Muḥammad ﷺ.
He was not simply a teacher of Islam; he was Islam in practice. His character was the explanation of the Qurʾān. Our mother ʿĀʾishah raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhā was asked about his character and replied: “His character was the Qurʾān.” (Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim). Loving the Prophet ﷺ is not only a feeling; it is shown by following him. He said:
Lā yuʾminu aḥadukum ḥattā akūna aḥabba ilayhi min wālidihi wa waladihi wa‑n‑nāsi ajmaʿīn.
“None of you truly believes until I am more beloved to him than his father, his child and all of mankind.” (Ṣaḥīḥ al‑Bukhārī; Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim)
6. From “What Do I Want?” to “What Does Allah Love?”
Brothers and sisters in Islam, there is one question that can change an entire life. Before guidance, we often ask: “What do I want?” What career do I want? What lifestyle do I want? What pleases me? What benefits me? What makes me happy? Islam gently changes the central question to: “What does Allah love?”
Before a business decision – what does Allah love? Before responding in anger – what does Allah love? Before speaking about someone – what does Allah love? Before posting on social media – what does Allah love? Before spending our wealth – what does Allah love? Life moves from being centred on the ego to being centred on pleasing our Creator. The word “Islam” means submission—not to culture, desires, or trends, but to Allah Subḥānahu wa Taʿālā alone. Many think submission means losing freedom. In reality, when you submit to Allah, you are freed from becoming a slave to money, fashion, public opinion, desires, and fears. Every human serves something. The believer chooses to serve the One who created everything. That is true honour.
7. Living the Blueprint Every Day
My dear brothers and sisters, a blueprint has no value if it stays rolled up. It must be followed. Owning a Qurʾān does not change a life. Reading it begins to change a life. Understanding it changes a life more. Living it changes destiny. Each of us should ask today: “Am I living according to Allah’s blueprint, or am I writing my own?” Perhaps careers have weakened our ṣalāh. Perhaps wealth has hidden gratitude. Perhaps technology has distracted us from our relationship with the One who created us. The Prophet ﷺ reminded us:
كُنْ فِي الدُّنْيَا كَأَنَّكَ غَرِيبٌ أَوْ عَابِرُ سَبِيلٍ
Kun fi d‑dunyā kaʾannaka gharībun aw ʿābiru sabīl.
“Be in this world as though you were a stranger or a traveller.” (Ṣaḥīḥ al‑Bukhārī)
This world is a station, not our final home. The blueprint from Allah Subḥānahu wa Taʿālā prepares us for the meeting that every soul will face. Yā ayyuhā l‑insānu innaka kādiḥun ilā rabbika kadḥan fa‑mulāqīh. “O mankind, indeed you are labouring toward your Lord with great effort, and you will meet Him.” (Sūrah al‑Inshiqāq 84:6). The intelligent believer plans not only for retirement, but for eternity.
8. Three Commitments Before Next Jumuʿah
Do not leave today inspired but unchanged. Inspiration fades; commitment remains. Let us make three sincere commitments before Allah Subḥānahu wa Taʿālā:
1. Guard your ṣalāh: If the five daily prayers are irregular, begin there. The prayer is Allah’s invitation to meet Him five times a day.
2. Spend time with the Qurʾān: Not only reciting, but understanding and reflecting—even one page a day. هَٰذَا بَيَانٌ لِّلنَّاسِ وَهُدًى وَمَوْعِظَةٌ لِّلْمُتَّقِينَ "This is a clear explanation for mankind, and a guidance and an admonition for those who are mindful of Allah." (Sūrah Āl ʿImrān 3:138)
3. Ask one question every morning: “Will what I do today bring me closer to Allah or further away from Him?” If we ask this sincerely each day, our decisions, priorities, and character will begin to change—and with them, our lives.
4. Final Reflection
When many of us look back, whether born Muslim or revert, we realise we were searching for a blueprint: for meaning, certainty, peace—without knowing where to look. Allah Subḥānahu wa Taʿālā never promised a life without hardship. He promised guidance through hardship, and that the straight path will always lead back to Him. That is why, in every rakʿah of every ṣalāh, we say:
اهْدِنَا الصِّرَاطَ الْمُسْتَقِيمَ
Ihdinā ṣ‑ṣirāṭa l‑mustaqīm.
“Guide us to the Straight Path.” (Sūrah al‑Fātiḥah 1:6)
We do not ask for just any path; we ask for the straight path. There is only one blueprint that leads to success in this life and eternal success in the next: Islam, lived as a way of life. So let us leave today with renewed purpose: praying with sincerity, reading the Qurʾān with reflection, following the Sunnah with love, treating our families with mercy, earning with honesty, speaking with wisdom, and above all, striving daily to live according to the blueprint revealed by the One who knows us better than we know ourselves.
10. Closing Duʿā and Conclusion
May Allah Subḥānahu wa Taʿālā make the Qurʾān the spring of our hearts, the light of our chests, the remover of our worries, and the guide for every decision we make. May He make us people who hear the truth and follow the best of it, grant us sincerity in worship, steadfastness upon His religion, and allow us to meet Him while He is pleased with us.
Allāhumma‑jʿal il‑Qurʾāna rabīʿa qulūbinā, wa nūra ṣudūrinā, wa jalāʾa aḥzāninā, wa dhahāba humūminā wa ghumūminā.
Allāhumma thabbitnā ʿalā dīnik, warzuqnā ḥusna l‑khātimah, wajʿal ākhira kalāminā fi d‑dunyā lā ilāha illā Allāh.
Allāhumma ihdinā wa‑hdi binā, wajʿalnā sababan limani‑htadā, warzuqnā ṣ‑ṣidqa wa‑l‑ikhlāṣa fi l‑qawli wa‑l‑ʿamal.
Rabbanā ātinā fi d‑dunyā ḥasanah, wa fi l‑ākhirati ḥasanah, wa qinā ʿadhāba n‑nār.
Aqūlu qawlī hādhā, wa astaghfiru llāha l‑ʿAẓīma lī wa lakum wa lisāʾiri l‑muslimīn, fastaghfirūhu, innahu huwa l‑Ghafūru r‑Raḥīm.
