ππ CELEBRATING THE REMARKABLE JOURNEY OF MR MATLOU ππ
Today, we had the privilege of celebrating the retirement and remarkable career of Mr Matlou, a dedicated teacher, educationist, mentor and school leader whose journey in education spans more than 36 years of service.
As we bid farewell to a man who devoted much of his life to education, we look back at a journey that began in 1989 and became a legacy of commitment, leadership and service.
π THE BEGINNING OF A TEACHING JOURNEY β 1989
Mr Matlou began his teaching career in January 1989 at Kgamanyane High School, where he served until December of the same year.
Although this was the beginning of his professional journey, it laid the foundation for a career that would eventually see him serve as a teacher, Deputy Head, Deputy Principal, Chief Marker and Principal.
π FURTHERING HIS EDUCATION β 1990
In 1990, Mr Matlou made the decision to further his own education by returning to Turfloop University, where he pursued his BEd Honours.
This demonstrated an important principle that would characterise his career: a commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
π« MATLHARE MOKAUTU HIGH SCHOOL β 1991 TO 2007
In 1991, Mr Matlou joined Matlhare Mokautu High School as a PL1 teacher.
He served as a teacher from 1991 to 1994, dedicating himself to the education and development of learners.
His leadership abilities and dedication were recognised, and in 1995, he was appointed Deputy Head (DH) at the same school.
He remained in this leadership position until 2007.
This period marked an important chapter in his development as an education leader, moving from the classroom into school management and leadership.
π« BOITEKONG SECONDARY SCHOOL β DEPUTY PRINCIPAL
In 2008, Mr Matlou joined Boitekong Secondary School as Deputy Principal.
He served in this position from 2008 to 2014, contributing to the management and development of the school.
During this period, his expertise in education and assessment was also recognised beyond the school.
From 2011 to 2014, he served as a Chief Marker, carrying the responsibility of leading and overseeing the marking process.
This was another significant achievement in a career characterised by increasing responsibility and leadership.
π¨π½βπΌ PRINCIPAL OF MADIBAA TOLOANE SECONDARY SCHOOL β 2014 TO 2019
In April 2014, Mr Matlou took another major step in his leadership journey when he was appointed Principal of Madibaa Toloane Secondary School in the Madibeng Subdistrict.
He served as principal from April 2014 until December 2019.
As a principal, he carried the responsibility of leading an entire school community, working with educators, learners, parents and other stakeholders.
π«BUILDING A NEW LEGACY β Boitekong II Secondary School
In January 2020, he became the Principal of Boitekong II Secondary School, a new school.
It was here that he concluded his remarkable career,producing outstanding results and finally retiring on 30 April 2025.
πΉ A CAREER THAT SPANNED GENERATIONS
From his first teaching post in 1989 to his retirement in 2025, Mr Matlou dedicated more than three decades to education.
His journey took him from the classroom to senior management and ultimately to the principal's office.
β€οΈ A LEGACY OF SERVICE
Today, we do not simply celebrate the retirement of a principal.
We celebrate a teacher who became a leader, a leader who became a mentor, and a mentor whose years of service became a legacy.
Mr Matlou's journey reminds us that education is not merely a profession. It is a calling that allows one to influence generations.
To Mr Matlou:
Thank you for the years you dedicated to education.
Thank you for the leadership you provided.
Thank you for the knowledge you shared.
Thank you for the lives you touched.
Thank you for the legacy you leave behind.
As you enter this new chapter, may retirement bring you peace, happiness, good health, quality time with your loved ones and the opportunity to enjoy the fruits of your many years of service.
