A recent study of 2,327 maize producing households in 39 districts of Ethiopia found that improved maize adoption has a positive impact on per capita food consumption and significantly increases the probability of a smallholder being in food surplus. How many landraces can you see in this photo? 's maize germplasm bank contains about 28,000 unique samples of cultivated maize and its wild relatives, including around 26,000 samples of maize landraces—traditional, locally-adapted varieties that are rich in diversity. The bank both conserves this diversity and makes it available as a resource for breeding.

This is a Brazilian landrace maize, and rather a beautiful one too!
