In a world that struggles with definitions, it is comforting to have an anchor in the sea of confusion when we need to define a mother - if you have a belly button, you have a mother. What I have experienced is that mothers are like water – they adapt, nurture, and cleanse, but most importantly – they are everywhere, and without them, nothing survives. Water is influenced by the environment, and to adapt, it can be a solid (ice when the environment is cold), a gas (when the environment is hot), or a fluid in its natural form (when the environment is ideal). With mothers, it’s the same – a complicated process. Not all mothers are nurturing, protective, and kind. Some kill their offspring physically, and some kill them emotionally. Some abandon their babies, and others give them away. All these mothers have their reasons. Then you have mothers that defy the laws of logical reasoning. They love their children with a love that will, at times, disobey the guidelines of the Divine. These are mothers who will disregard danger and ignore pain to protect their children - mothers who willingly sacrifice all they have and who they are for the sake of their children. Finally, you have mothers who shield the wind. These are mothers who allow their children to be who they authentically are by providing safe environments where they can explore, discover, and grow into the best versions of themselves. Mothers are like water; they may nourish, clean you, baptize, or drown you. They may be mysterious and moody like the sea or like the rain, a blessing from above. What I know for certain is – even mothers have a belly button.

And here you are – in the current moment, the Now. As you read these words, you are the product of all your life experiences – everything you have endured and survived. Every choice you have made has brought you to this place and the person that you are. How you feel at this moment is your reality. You can be a prisoner of your past with regrets and sadness or a fugitive of the future with uncertainty and fear, but this moment is your reality. In this moment, you have the power to maintain or change your reality. The miracle is that nothing in your external world needs to change for your reality to change. You have within you a lifetime of experiences and a universe of unique abilities you can rely on to make informed decisions to change or maintain your current reality. Emotional vampires - what are they, how do you detect them and how do you protect yourself from them?

Emotional vampires are those individuals who drain the emotional energy, joy, and well-being of others through manipulative, self-centred, harmful, and toxic behaviours. One indication that emotional vampires may be present in your environment is the presence of lines crossing your Life line.
