Corruption in South Africa is often cited as the primary obstacle to addressing historical injustices, but this overlooks a more significant barrier: the entrenched power dynamics that perpetuate inequality. The dominance of business elites who control the economy, land, and infrastructure has left black Africans largely disenfranchised, perpetuating a cycle of dispossession and disempowerment. The failure to transform state institutions and economic structures has meant that the benefits of democracy have been largely confined to a small elite, while the majority remain marginalized. It's striking that some continue to place faith in the DA, despite its consistent opposition to policies aimed at redressing these inequalities, such as employment equity, NHI, and land restitution. The DA's commitment to neoliberalism and its rejection of transformative policies suggest that it is more invested in preserving the status quo than in addressing the systemic injustices that have historically disenfranchised black South Africans. To achieve true transformation, we must confront and dismantle these power dynamics, rather than simply shuffling the deck chairs of political power.

The judicial process is not as simple as we think it is. The way judges reach their decisions is an interesting aspect that post-modern law students should really take some time to look at.

If you understand both human nature and the law, it won’t be too difficult for you to eventually figure out that a judge rarely works out a conclusion from legal principle. In most cases he reaches his conclusion first and then finds legal rules to justify it.

The judges conclusion is really a judicial 'hunch' produced by the interaction of rules of law and hidden influences such as the judge's education, race and class, his political, economic and moral prejudices. In short, a judge's decisions are the outcome of his entire life history. Let that sink in 😁

When you are writing an essay on a particular topic, work out what you are going to say in response to the question that has been set and then focus like a laser on making out what you want to say. It doesn’t matter if a lot of interesting stuff that you’ve read about is left unsaid. The pain of not being able to show off to the reader just how much you know about your subject is the price you have to pay for writing a really good essay.

Some pupils get very competitive in their studies, they try to ensure that they will do better than others by doing as little as possible to help others with their work. Try to avoid falling into this mentality. Unless you are a genius, you will do better working with others than you can do working in isolation from everyone else. Even doing something as seemingly one sided as helping someone who is struggling to understand a particular topic of History will actually end up helping you with your work, because having to explain that topic in the clearest possible terms will help make that topic clearer in your mind, and force you to confront any confusions about the topic that you suffer from.
