Earlier this term, Our hostel parents and a few of the hostel learners stepped outside their comfort zones. They took to the mountains and caves at Thabela Thabeng. Surrounded by incredible scenery, they explored the beauty of the natural world while building resilience and learning about the importance of clean water and a clean environment.

Some boys already have the talent. They simply need the opportunity.

Potchefstroom High School for Boys is calling on its community to be part of something that matters. Old boys, local businesses, Potchefstroom residents and friends of the school, this one is for you.

The College Footprints Mentorship Programme identifies promising young men with real academic ability and sporting potential from disadvantaged backgrounds. Boys who have everything it takes, except the means to access the environment that will unlock it.

The goal is simple. Get these boys into the hostel. Change their lives. Strengthen our school.

WHY THE HOSTEL MATTERS

A boy who lives in the hostel doesn’t just attend College, he lives it. Proper meals. Enough sleep. Evening study support. Morning and afternoon training. Full participation in everything that makes College, College.

Right now, many of our most talented boys travel for hours on public transport just to get to school. Then they leave the moment the bell rings to make the long journey home. They miss training. They miss study sessions. They miss the brotherhood that so many of us still carry with us today.

An empty hostel bed is not just a missed opportunity for a boy. It is a missed opportunity for our school. When the hostels are full, College thrives.

HOW YOU CAN GET INVOLVED

Whether you are an old boy, a Potchefstroom business owner, a community member or simply someone who believes in giving potential a chance, there is a place for you in this programme.

You can sponsor a boy on your own as an individual, owning that relationship and watching him grow. Or get your old hostel, your matric year, your old rugby team or your colleagues together and share the cost as a group. Either way, you are making a real difference.

If you are a business, your contribution may qualify as CSI or socio-economic development spend, and qualifying donations may be eligible for a Section 18A tax certificate. This is not just a feel-good investment. It is a smart one.

YOUR WAY. YOUR PACE.

Involvement can be once-off or ongoing, hands-on or behind the scenes. There is no pressure to do more than you are comfortable with. Every contribution, large or small, makes a real and measurable difference.

All funds are managed directly through the school’s finance office, formally recorded, transparently allocated and properly invoiced. No ambiguity. No uncertainty.

A College boy does not become a College man by accident. He is shaped by opportunity, discipline, guidance and the belief that someone sees more in him than his circumstances suggest.
