SALGA CONTINUES TO PROFESSIONALISE LOCAL GOVERNMENT THROUGH CAPACITY BUILDING PROGRAMMES FOR LEADERSHIP

Considering the significance of communities, media and all other stakeholders in municipal and service delivery consultation and reporting processes, this week also, the SALGA Centre for Leadership and Governance (SCLG), conducted a Municipal Leaders Media and Stakeholder Engagement programme (MSEP). The three-day training session was attended by successfully enrolled councillors from Ramotshere Moiloa, Mahikeng, Tswaing, Kagisano Molopo, Lekwa-Teemane, Greater Taung, JB Marks local municipalities and Dr RS Mompati district municipality.

This skills programme focuses on media relations, communications principles, stakeholder relationship management, community relations, advocacy and lobbying and is aimed at promoting media and stakeholder engagement coordination skills. The programme will enhance leadership and governance capabilities to drive professionalism and excellence in the dynamic and complex environment which municipalities operate in.

RE : AN INDIVIDUAL IMPERSONATING MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES

It has come to the attention of JB Marks Local Municipality that, there are individuals posing as Municipal Employees demanding payments from Members of Community. Specifically, there have been reports of someone requesting payments of R3000.00 into their personal account, falsely claiming affiliation with the JB Marks Local Municipality.

The person is allegedly threatening to cut off people's electricity if they don't pay. The JB Marks Local Municipality completely distances itself from any such activities and advises residents not to engage with these individuals.

Our Municipal Employees are strictly prohibited from soliciting payments directly from residents into personal accounts. Any such requests should be considered illegitimate and reported immediately.

If you encounter any suspicious behavior or receive such requests, please report it immediately to the relevant authorities or contact the Debt Collection Service of the Municipality on 018 299 5181 to confirm if your account appears on the cut-off list or not.

The Department of Local Economic Development supported by the Transversal Issues unit in the Office of the Executive Mayor hosted a NGOs Consultative Workshop at Banqueting Halls. The program aims to not only assist in resolving the preparedness of the NGOs but to also build them towards being resolute and sustainable in their growth and operation as an extension of state. Selected NGOs will be receiving a voucher as a second leg of the workshop and the NWU Social Science Faculty will then be assisting with a monitoring and evaluation tool for to measure the sustainability and impact of the NGOs.

The Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC) of JB Marks Municipality hereby invites the local community in terms of section 21A of Local Government Municipal Systems Act, 2000 (Act 32 of 2000) to attend public participating meeting at which Annual Reports is to be discussed.
