Bel Canto Boot Camp

The little ones of Lunenburg came to meet Derrick as well! We learned to throw out our voices proudly, sing high and low, and put on our listening ears. .caulfield.soprano brought her banana telephone, made us count her staccati, and Sarah and sang the birdman and his girlfriend duet from Mozart’s Magic Flute. A grand time was had by all!

This is Derrick’s first time at in Nova Scotia and the locals are loving getting to know him. We often teach audiences some skills before our concerts, but here in Lunenburg we have an entire evening of Community Sing! We learned good onset in Oh what a beautiful morning, did laryngeal exercise switch exercises, got our voices moving using the syllables of “Dumela!” (Sesotho for hallo!) and learned some Italian in an aria we all know! Thank you for a love evening of learning together, Derrick!

The High School Art Song Institute is a collaboration between Bel Canto Boot Camp and Art Song KC, and we want YOUR high school singers to be part of it!

Founded in 2020 by Rachelle Jonck and Derrick Goff, BCBC practices a unique combination of group and one-on-one instruction rooted in the Italian bel canto tradition — and now they’re bringing that magic to us. 🌍✨

• Student-chosen morning masterclasses in vocal technique, repertoire, history, language, musicianship, audition prep, career development & more
