Sethembinkosi Primary School Promotes Water Safety Awareness

Sethembinkosi Primary School yesterday the 11 of September 2026 welcomed representatives from National Sea Rescue International for an important and educational presentation on water safety and safe swimming practices.

The programme was aimed at learners from Grade 4 to Grade 7 and was conducted under the school’s Safety and Security programme. The presentation was led by Ms Nokufika, who shared valuable information and practical guidance to help learners understand the dangers associated with water and how they can keep themselves and others safe.

Learners were taught important water-safety rules, swimming techniques and safety tricks that can be useful when spending time around swimming pools, rivers, dams, beaches and other bodies of water. The session encouraged learners to be responsible around water, to recognise potentially dangerous situations and to understand what to do in an emergency.

The visit forms part of Sethembinkosi Primary School’s ongoing commitment to ensuring that learners are informed, prepared and aware of developments relating to safety and security. The school continues to work hard to equip its learners with knowledge and life skills that can help protect them both at school and in their communities.

The National Sea Rescue International presentation was a valuable reminder that water safety is everyone’s responsibility. Through partnerships with organisations and professionals, Sethembinkosi Primary is helping to build a culture where learners are encouraged to make safe decisions and look out for one another.

The school extends its appreciation to National Sea Rescue International and Ms Nokufika for taking the time to educate and empower the learners. Their contribution has helped strengthen the school’s efforts to promote safety awareness and protect young lives.

Sethembinkosi Primary School Hosts Successful Staff Development Workshop

2 September 2026

Sethembinkosi Primary School today hosted a staff development meeting aimed at strengthening educators’ capacity to support learners and respond effectively to matters affecting their wellbeing and educational development.

The workshop was facilitated by Mrs Lushaba from Ugu SNES and Ms Chapa, a Social Worker from Psychosocial Services.

The session focused on key areas that are essential to providing comprehensive support to learners. Mrs Lushaba led the session on Screening, Identification, Assessment and Support (SIAS), with particular emphasis on identifying and supporting learners experiencing barriers to learning. The session equipped staff members with valuable knowledge and practical guidance on appropriate interventions and support mechanisms.

Ms Chapa facilitated an important session on the reporting of child abuse, highlighting the responsibility of educators and school staff to recognise possible signs of abuse and follow the appropriate reporting procedures. She also addressed Form 2 and related psychosocial support processes.

The development meeting provided an opportunity for staff members to enhance their knowledge, share experiences and strengthen collaborative approaches to learner support and protection.

The school is pleased to report that the workshop was a success, with staff members actively participating and engaging meaningfully throughout the sessions.

Sethembinkosi Primary School extends its sincere appreciation to Mrs Lushaba, Ugu SNES, and Ms Chapa from Psychosocial Services for their valuable contribution towards the professional development of the school’s staff and the continued wellbeing and success of its learners.

KZN Rugby ID Tournament – Girls U15 & Boys U12/U14

We are incredibly proud of our young rugby players who represented the school with determination, discipline and pride!

The Girls U15 team participated in the KZN Rugby ID Tournament held at Douglas Mitchell from 21–23 August 2026. They competed against teams from four rugby sub-unions under the KZN Rugby Union and finished an impressive 3rd position.

Our Boys teams also delivered outstanding performances:
U14 – 1st Position
U12 – 2nd Position

These achievements are a true reflection of the hard work, commitment and talent of our learners, coaches and the entire school community.

A special and heartfelt thank you to the parents of Sethembinkosi for their tremendous support, encouragement and commitment. Your support makes a meaningful difference in the development and success of our learners.

We also extend our sincere appreciation to our school principal, Mrs SJ Ngcobo, for her maximum support, leadership and encouragement of our learners and sporting programmes. Your continued support is greatly valued.

A HEARTFELT FAREWELL TO OUR SIX BELOVED COLLEAGUES

Sethembinkosi Primary School recently came together for a joyful and memorable farewell as we bid farewell to six valued colleagues who have played an important role in our school community.

Of the six, three colleagues are moving on to new schools through transfers, while three are retiring after years of dedicated service. Although it was a day filled with mixed emotions, it was above all a celebration of their commitment, friendship and contribution to Sethembinkosi Primary.

Gifts were presented with love and appreciation by Mrs Khuboni and Mrs Nqoko, as a token of gratitude for the years of service and memories shared.

🙏 Mrs Ntusi delivered the Vote of Thanks, bringing the programme to a meaningful close.

We were also honoured by our main guests, who responded warmly to the school, making the occasion even more special.

It was truly a joyful, emotional and unforgettable day as we celebrated six wonderful colleagues and wished them every success and happiness in the next chapter of their lives. 🌸

To our three retirees: thank you for your years of dedicated service, wisdom and commitment. May retirement bring you abundant joy, good health and well-deserved rest. ❤️
