The Dunning-Kruger effect is when someone with low skill or limited knowledge in an area overestimates how good they are, because they do not yet know enough to see their own gaps.

In simple terms: They are too inexperienced to realise how inexperienced they are.

Example: A beginner trader learns one strategy, gets a few wins, and suddenly thinks they understand the market. But because they do not yet understand risk, market conditions, psychology, liquidity, or long-term consistency, they falsely believe they are more skilled than they really are.

The dangerous part is this:

Confidence rises faster than competence.

A useful way to think about it:

Beginner stage: “This is easy. I get it.”
Reality hits: Losses, mistakes, confusion.
Awareness grows: “There is much more to this than I thought.”
Real competence: Confidence becomes calmer, more realistic, and backed by skill.

So the lesson is simple: Do not confuse early confidence with real mastery. Real skill usually comes with humility, structure, and proof over time.
