Cape Sugarbird 🪶

I keep seeing this Cape Sugarbird return to the same tree, again and again — as if it’s home. There’s something deeply grounding about watching a wild being choose a place and stay faithful to it.

With its long, flowing tail and curved bill, the Cape Sugarbird is perfectly adapted to feed on nectar, especially from fynbos plants like proteas. As it feeds, it becomes an essential pollinator, carrying pollen between flowers and quietly sustaining the ecosystem.

These birds are territorial, often claiming a specific area and defending it year-round — which makes repeated sightings in the same tree feel even more meaningful. It’s not just passing through; it belongs here.

A reminder that wildness doesn’t always roam far — sometimes it roots itself, watches, and lives fully in one place. 🌿

📍 Endemic to South Africa

We grow, forage, and raise most every ingredient in our skincare line, and for our apothecary and “Farmacy” line- right from our farm.
•
That’s what makes it SO special and is a HUGE cornerstone of our business!
•
So as much work that goes into crafting the skincare, itself, there’s even more work that goes into the amount of gardening and farming we do behind the scenes as well!
•
And since we are in the middle of planning out our 2025 gardens, cleaning out our greenhouses, and gearing up for foraging season, it’s time to start bringing you along on that annual journey, step-by-step!
•
Content starts to shift more to gardening and foraging season this time of year- and this is the season we really cover the materia medica of the plants we’re foraging and growing!
•
So come along as we cover some basics and some more advanced learning from everything on growing for medicinal home remedies and healing of the human condition!
•
I thought today we’d cover several (but not all!) flowers that we grow here that not only are beautiful, bright, flowering, and will brighten up your garden and bring you joy- *but that also are medicinal healers and gentle soothers!*
•
These are our favorites- because of their dual-purpose nature!
•
If you don’t have a lot of time or space or much budget- growing even a couple of these will get you well on your way to crafting your own skin (and home) remedies yourself…right from your own very garden.
•
And if you don’t have the time or the want to do this- then support a farmer, like us, or in your area, and buy directly from them!
•
We start *most* seeds in our grow zone 6b in February and transplant when the soil is warm, usually end of April- beginning of May.
•
Some of our favorite seed companies
 are @lushanddew_official @organorepublic @bakercreekseeds @sowrightseeds @siskiyouseeds
•
And @vego_garden raised beds always!!
•
Read the pinned comment for more details on how we use each plant in, on our own skincare line!
•
Happy growing!
