Around this time last year we were crowned as national champions # SIFUNDELA UKUHOLA ISIZWE
to host 2026 National Participatory Educational Techniques and Debates
Competitions
The Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) will host the 2026 National
Participatory Educational Techniques (PET) and Debates Competitions in Johannesburg, Gauteng, from 28 September to 1 October 2026.
The annual initiative, which has been running since the early 2000s, provides Grade
10 and 11 learners from all nine provinces with a platform to engage on issues through debates, creative presentations and other participatory educational activities.
This year’s competitions will be held under the theme “Ngithathe Ungibeke Wena 2
Series Yam”, encouraging learners to reflect on their individual roles and responsibilities in promoting road safety, whether as pedestrians, passengers or responsible road users.
The programme seeks to strengthen learners’ critical thinking, communication, leadership and advocacy skills while encouraging young people to develop innovative solutions to road safety challenges in their communities.
The national competitions will bring together learners from across South Africa to
share ideas, challenge perspectives and demonstrate how young people can
contribute to building a culture of responsible road use and safer communities.
The RTMC continues to recognise the important role that young people can play in influencing positive behaviour change and advancing road safety awareness.
Members of the media are invited to attend and cover the national competitions.
