Exam Strategy for Grade 12
Hi Matriculants,
As your final exams approach, it's natural to feel anxious, but remember—you've already put in the hard work. Now it's time to execute. To help you stay calm, focused, and maximize your performance in the exam room, here's a strategy that works:
Browse through the exam paper:
Before you start answering, take a few minutes to quickly skim the entire paper. This will give you an overview of what's ahead and help you plan your time.
Rate each question out of 10:
This is crucial! For each question, assign a difficulty level from 1 to 10—where 1 is the easiest and 10 the hardest. This step helps you structure your approach and manage your time effectively. The goal is to start with the easiest questions (rated 1-3) to build confidence and momentum. Leave the most challenging ones (rated 7-10) for later, when you're warmed up and in full flow. Ranking questions like this will also help reduce anxiety, as you'll feel more in control of your exam strategy.
Start with the easiest:
Once you've ranked the questions, start with the ones you rated as easiest. Finishing them quickly will boost your confidence, allowing you to approach the tougher ones with more clarity and focus.
Attempt every question:
Don't leave any question unanswered, even if you're unsure. Every point counts, and partial answers can still earn marks.
Focus on the process, not the outcome:
While writing, don't worry about the final grade—just focus on answering each question to the best of your ability. Trust in your preparation.
Avoid post-exam discussions:
Once you're done, don't spend time analyzing the paper with your classmates. Focus on the next exam instead.
Good luck—you've got this!
