‼️❤️ Parents of autistic children, be their voice, be their advocate, and ask as many questions as you like, to the people who are providing support or input for your child. As qualified health professionals, we are required to abide by certain rules and regulations set out by the health professions Council of South Africa🇿🇦, ensuring that we are regulated to provide a certain standard of care, a certain quality of services. We have taken the Hippocratic oath, which obligates us to “do no harm”. ❤️‼️ Unfortunately there are individuals or groups out there who are professing to be able to provide input in Speech therapy, OT, and Playtherapy. This is problematic because Qualified health therapists are not allowed to practice like this, across discipline lines… The gold standard for providing support for Autistic children is to use the trans disciplinary team approach, garnering support, advice and therapy from a range of different health professionals, like Speech therapists, Occupational therapists, Physiotherapists, and Play therapy practitioners. 🔥💪🏻The only way a health professional can practice across discipline lines, is if they have studied for a decade to complete all the degrees and qualifications required. ‼️‼️Ask all the questions that you need to ask and make sure you only continue once you know what you’re getting! ❤️‼️

Literacy in Neurodivergence part 1. Functional Literacy is the ultimate goal. We read to learn, we read for entertainment, we read to cook new recipes, we read to connect with family on what’s app, we read to to improve our own skills and to keep in touch with the world. LITERACY FOR ALL 🔥

There is no “Autistic speech pattern”, and not all Autistic people have different speech patterns to neurotypicals either. Each person uses their speech systems in a unique way related to how they perceive the world with their sensory and auditory systems, and how they interact with the world relating to their social identity and social confidence. The goal would not be to fix a SPEECH pattern, but to aim for quality of life.

Part 1: There is no template for the “Autistic Speech Pattern”! There is NO such thing! It is so variable, because every individual is unique and has different ways of coordinating and controlling different aspects of their speech. Socially, it may be difficult to tell that one’s voice is different to others and how others may interpret it. Most importantly, the individual needs to be accepted for how they speak, and not be treated differently.
