🚌🔥 LEADERSHIP HAS LEFT THE BUILDING.

This morning, our Grade 6 and Grade 11 learners packed their bags, loaded the bus and officially set off for their 3-day, 2-night Leadership Camp. 🦅💙💛

No classrooms. No ordinary school routine. Just three days of being challenged, stretched, tested and reminded that leadership is about far more than wearing a badge or holding a title.

It’s about communication.
It’s about responsibility.
It’s about knowing when to lead, when to listen, when to step up and how to work with people who think differently from you. 💭🤝🏽

And sometimes, the best way to learn all of that is to leave the comfort of the classroom behind.

For the next few days, our learners will be building confidence, independence, teamwork and the kind of memories that will probably still be talked about long after the bags are unpacked. 😮‍💨🔥

Their destination? That part stays with us. 🤫

For now, all we’ll say is that the next three days are going to challenge them, push them out of their comfort zones and give them plenty to come back talking about. 🔥

Three days. Two nights. One experience designed to build stronger teams, sharper minds and more confident young leaders. 🦅

Today, our Grade 6 learners got hands-on in the kitchen, working through a recipe for homemade oat biscuits — measuring, mixing, shaping, baking and, of course, tasting the final product. 🥣🍪

Because learning doesn’t always need a desk and a textbook.

Sometimes it looks like flour on your hands, a mixing bowl on the counter, a little teamwork… and something delicious coming out of the oven. 😂👏🏽

Our Art & Design learner spotlight continues with Nolo Lebeko | Grade 10A 💙💛

For Nolo, the theme “Scars of Society” became deeply personal — exploring a journey of self-healing, self-acceptance and learning to embrace who you are despite society’s expectations.

🪞 Through the artwork, Nolo reflects on the pressure to hide parts of yourself, dim your personality or put on a “mask” out of fear of how the world may respond.

And that’s what we’re loving about this series.

These aren’t simply beautiful pieces hanging in an Art & Design classroom. They’re ideas. Conversations. Experiences. Perspectives.

Every learner sees the world differently — and they’re learning how to communicate that through their work. 🎨✨

Nolo Lebeko | Grade 10A

A canvas can hold much more than paint.

This is Art & Design at Ashton John’s Private School.

🎨 WHEN ART BECOMES PERSONAL.

For Grade 10A learner Oarabile Madibo, Art & Design became a way to explore two powerful ideas through his own perspective.

🎶 In one piece, Oarabile looked at how music makes him feel, how it frames him, and how it brings people together.

🌳 In another, he explored the “scars of society” — contrasting the beauty of the earth with the impact society can leave behind.

That’s what makes Art & Design powerful: the final piece may be visual, but behind it is thought, emotion, interpretation and a story that belongs to the learner.

Oarabile Madibo | Grade 10A 💙💛

Creative expression. Critical thinking. A voice of his own.

This is Art & Design at Ashton John’s Private School.

Today it’s “watermelon” 🍉 and “blocks” 🧱. Tomorrow, it’s paragraphs, presentations and ideas of their own. 🧠📚✨

That’s the thing about Foundation Phase 💙 — the work may look simple, but there’s a whole lot happening underneath it. 👀

Our Grade 2s are exploring nouns and verbs ✏️🔤 — strengthening the language skills they already use every day to read, write, tell stories and express their ideas with confidence. 🙌🏽💭
