Little Steps Pre-School welcomed spring with laughter, movement and plenty of colour as its young learners took part in a fun-filled colour run celebrating friendship, childhood and the joy of learning through play.

We decided to celebrate the only way we know how: with colour, giggles, messy little faces, and lots of happy feet! πŸ’•πŸŽ¨πŸ‘£

Our Little Steps Colour Run 2026 was a beautiful technicolour adventure! 🌈 From tiny toes running through clouds of colour to the biggest smiles covered in every shade of the rainbow, our little ones, from babies to toddlers, reminded us that childhood is meant to be messy, joyful, silly and full of wonder. πŸ₯ΉπŸ’—

And honestly… watching them experience the pure excitement of "What is happening?! Why am I purple?" was pure magic. 🀣🌈

Because these are the moments we want to bottle up foreve: the belly laughs, the colourful cheeks, the proud little faces and those tiny hands reaching for just one handful of colour. πŸ₯°

🌸 Hello Spring!
🌈 Hello colour!
✨ Hello to another season of growing, learning, laughing and making memories together!

Here’s to letting childhood be childhood,
one colourful footprint at a time. πŸ‘£πŸŒˆπŸ’•

πŸ˜πŸ¦’ The wonderful world of African animals! πŸ¦“πŸΎπŸŒΏ

Our Lion Cubs explored African wildlife through hands-on, sensory learning! πŸŒπŸ’š

Our little explorers had the opportunity to look at information posters showing:
πŸ† What different animals’ skin patterns look like
🐾 Their paw and hoof prints
πŸ₯• What they eat
🌿 Where they live

But we didn’t stop at looking! πŸ‘€βœ¨ Each child got to explore a toy version of the animal and use playdough to create and imprint animal tracks, turning information into something they could touch, feel, manipulate and experience.

And THAT is where the magic of early learning happens! πŸ₯°

🌱 Why activities like this matter:
🧠 Cognitive development – Builds early knowledge, observation skills, memory and classification as children notice similarities and differences between animals.

βœ‹ Fine-motor development – Squishing, rolling, pressing and imprinting playdough strengthens little hands and fingers, supporting future skills like drawing and writing.

πŸ‘€ Visual perception – Matching animal patterns, tracks and pictures encourages children to observe details and make connections.

πŸ—£οΈ Language development – Introducing words such as paw, hoof, stripes, spots, habitat, jungle and savanna expands vocabulary and encourages communication.

🐾 Sensory development – Feeling playdough and creating tracks gives children a tactile way to process and explore new concepts.

🀝 Social development – Exploring alongside friends encourages sharing, turn-taking, imitation and learning together.

🌍 Early environmental awareness – Children begin developing an understanding of animals, habitats and the world around them.

Because little minds learn best when they can see it, touch it, move it and PLAY with it! πŸ’š

πŸ¦’πŸ˜ Kicking off our African Animals theme with an art activity that will blow you away! πŸ’¦

Our little artists explored colour, movement and breath in this fun process-art activity! Using straws, or simply blowing with their mouths, our toddlers used the β€œtrunk” of an elephant to blow and spread food colouring across the page. πŸ’¨πŸ˜

And while it looks like simple messy play, SO much learning is happening behind those little blows! ✨

πŸ’¨ Speech & oral-motor development: Blowing activities encourage children to practise controlled breath, breath strength and oral-motor coordination. These skills contribute to the development of the muscles and breath control needed for speech, while also encouraging awareness of how we control our mouths and airflow.

πŸ–οΈ Fine-motor skills: Holding and positioning a straw, controlling the direction of the blow and creating intentional marks all encourage hand-eye coordination and fine-motor control.

πŸ‘€ Visual tracking & concentration: Toddlers watch the colour move across the page, encouraging visual attention, prediction and sustained concentration.

🧠 Cause & effect: β€œWhen I blow, the colour moves!” Learning through experimentation helps little minds make connections between their actions and the world around them.

🎨 Creativity & self-expression: There is no β€œperfect” elephant here; just exploration, discovery and the freedom to create!

🌱 At Little Steps, we believe that the process is just as important as the product. Our toddlers learn best when they can touch, experiment, make a mess, use their bodies and discover things for themselves. πŸ’•

🌸 A WOMAN IS A LITTLE BIT OF MAGIC 🌷

She carries sunshine in her smile,
a thousand stories in her heart,
and somehow knows how to turn
ordinary moments into magic.

She is morning light through open curtains,
bare feet on the kitchen floor,
flowers tucked behind her ear,
and laughter that fills the room.

She grows gardens from little dreams,
finds rainbows in rainy days,
and sprinkles a little wonder
wherever she goes.

She can be soft as a feather
and brave as a lion.
She can nurture, create, imagine,
dance, dream and begin again.

She is made of moonbeams and courage,
wild ideas and warm hugs,
messy moments and beautiful beginnings.

And perhaps her greatest magic
is not in doing everything perfectly,
but in making the people around her
feel safe enough to grow,
brave enough to dream,
and loved enough to simply be.

So here’s to every woman:
the mothers, daughters, sisters, aunties,
teachers, friends and dreamers...

May you always find a little time
to twirl in the sunshine,
laugh until your cheeks hurt,
and chase rainbows. 🌈

πŸ€ͺ Crazy Hair Day at Little Steps Baby and Toddler Centre! 🌈

Today my hair has gone insane,
It’s standing up like a sugar cane!
It’s spiky, curly, wild and tall,
I think it’s trying to climb the wall!

I’ve got a kaleidescope on my head,
A splash of blue, a dash of red!
Some have bows and some have flair,
Some have creatures in their hair!

My hair is dancing left and right,
It’s quite a crazy, funny sight!
So shake your head and shout, β€œHOORAY!”
It’s time for CRAZY HAIR DAY! πŸŽ‰

But when the school day’s finally through,
I’ll wash my hair.. will you wash yours too? 😜

πŸ¦•πŸ¦– πŸ₯š Tiny Scientists at Work! πŸ§ͺ✨

Science says our little explorers always have a blast discovering the magic of a STEAM experiment! Using pipettes, our toddlers carefully squeezed vinegar onto dinosaur eggs made from bicarbonate of soda, watching in amazement as they fizzed, bubbled, and "hatched" before their eyes. πŸŒ‹πŸ¦•

This exciting hands-on experience encouraged:
🧠 Scientific thinking through cause-and-effect exploration
πŸ’§ Fine motor development by strengthening little hand muscles with pipettes
πŸ‘€ Concentration and hand-eye coordination
πŸ’¬ Language development as we described the bubbling, fizzing, and hatching
πŸ’š Curiosity, confidence, and a lifelong love of learning

Every fizz, bubble, and giggle is building important foundations for future learning! ✨
