Fela Kuti to receive Grammys Lifetime Achievement Award https://share.google/9wEdgehduD5UcI9xO Fela Kuti invented his own style they called it afrobeat. One of several great African music innovators who created their own style or musical language. Dr Madala Kunene has created his own style of two chord Zulu blues known as Madalaline music. Now in his 79th year, "Bafo" friend as he is known in Kwa Zulu Natal where he comes from has won every award on a local, provincial and national level and has two honorary doctorates. Am hoping Fela has opened the door for the African musical innovators to shine.

Almost 30 years after he died, the Nigerian will posthumously receive a Lifetime Achievement Award.

Today we have learnt of the passing of Elias S'dumo Ngidi, the golden boy of KZN and Durban music. A penny whistler vocalist, guitarist and trumpet player, Elias had a distinguished career in music. He lived and performed in Johannesburg with Mankunku, Mseleku, Teaspoon Ndlelu and others. He toured and performed extensively with Babsy Mlangeni and was a musical mentor to many including his own sons the base players Philani and Simphiwe and trumpeter and soldier Eric Duma.

S'dumo is a musical father and educator. He was a moving spirit behind the Story of SA jazz book series and performed at the book launch concert. https://youtu.be/pnAvUErJFlg?si=lA5e_j3UtqZxT_ed
