“The Year of Charlotte Mannya Maxeke: Growing youth employment for an inclusive and transformed society”

June is dedicated to the youth of 1976 who stood up against the apartheid government and laid down their lives fighting for freedom and the right to equal education. This year marks 45 years since the uprising in which many children lost their lives while standing up against a system that sought to strip them of their identity and break their spirit.

This Youth Month we celebrate ‘30 Stories in 30 Days’ by recognising the present and future role of the youth in shaping the socio-economic landscape of the country.
________

Lihle Solomon was born and bred in an informal settlement in Khayelitsha by a household run by a single mother. She was awarded a bursary through NSFAS to study a computer science degree in Port Elizabeth but she had multiple personal challenges and had to drop out and return home.

With no formal qualification or experience she battled to find a job throughout 2019. In 2020 she joined the development proramme at CapaCiti.

in August 2020 she joined DigiLink as a Software Tester which has provided her with an opportunity to gain work experience and it has been a journey of learning new skills. The biggest highlight after having joined DigiLink is having obtained her ISTQB certification and receiving mentorship from industry leaders. This experience has been a true eye opener for her.

Help us celebrate you as well as all the youth in this country. Not forgetting those who are in the current struggle of Coronavirus and unemployment.

Share your story of pride, lets us celebrate the strength and power of our Youth.
