Learning through doing!

Well done to our pupils who headed to Logwood for Work Experience yesterday!

They worked hard in the laundry, sorting, hanging and folding clothing, building valuable practical and life skills along the way.

At Unity College, Work Experience is an important part of preparing our pupils for independence and the world of work, giving them meaningful exposure to real working environments and opportunities to grow in confidence, responsibility and ability.

Every task is a step towards greater independence!

Six Bricks, Big Learning!

Who knew six little bricks could do so much? 😊

Our 4–6-year-olds in the Early Intervention Phase used colourful DUPLO bricks to count, build, match and, explore numbers in mathematics while developing far more than early maths skills.

Through Six Bricks play, our pupils are strengthening perceptual-motor skills, self-regulation, curiosity, creativity, and problem-solving, helping their brains and bodies learn to work together.

Because at Unity College, learning starts with play… and builds so much more.

A few special moments of our Seniors and VTC pupils being wonderful friends to the Inters and Juniors.

Concert practice and other Unity events, where our different phases have the opportunity to interact, beautifully highlight the care, kindness and genuine connection our older pupils have for the younger children in our school.

It’s heartwarming to see these friendships grow and our older pupils looking out for and encouraging our little ones. 🫶🏼

Meet Our Rector, Mr Fillmore!

We are incredibly fortunate to share the leadership of Mr Fillmore, who serves as Rector of both our sister school, Newton House College, and Unity College.

A phenomenal leader, mentor, and advocate for our pupils and staff, Mr Fillmore brings passion, purpose, and genuine care to everything he does.

His commitment to making a meaningful difference in the lives of young people and his staff is something we are privileged to experience at Unity.

Newton House has given us a wonderful glimpse into the man behind the leadership: we thought we’d share their lovely “Get to Know Our Rector” feature with our Unity family too.

Thank you, Mr Fillmore, for all you do!

CONNECTING OUR PUPILS TO THE WORLD OF WORK

Teachers Avita and Carina attended the Disability Connect Conference & Expo at the Vodacom Dome today, gaining valuable insight into workplace opportunities and support available to young adults with disabilities.

For our VTC, these connections are invaluable in helping us understand what employers are looking for and how we can continue equipping our adult pupils with the practical, social and workplace skills they need to grow in confidence, independence and meaningful employment after Unity College.
