“On August 9th 1956, 20000 women led by Lilian Ngoyi, Helen Joseph, Rahima Moosa, and Sophia Williams-De Bruyn, marched to the Union Buildings in Pretoria. This was to protest the highly controversial apartheid pass laws implemented by the Apartheid Regime at the current time.

UJISS salute their efforts to combat this oppressive system, and celebrates the bravery, tenacity and fierce spirit women possess from all walks of life, tackling on the issues of the world with a head held high.
