Right outside your front door, right under your feet, lies a world of wild edible weeds—and when the weather plays along, mushrooms. These free foods offer a spectacular range of flavours, nutritional benefits, and culinary delights... if you know how to identify and prepare them safely.

Thank you for sharing your incredible knowledge and infectious excitement about these often overlooked treasures. Thank you for opening our eyes to the wonderful world of mushroom foraging, and for the delightful stories that accompany every find.

As we learn to harvest and eat from our immediate surroundings, something deeper happens—information flows between us and the land. We don’t just gain knowledge; we develop a profound reverence for nature. This is true connection.

Creative Futures

Fungi breathe like us. Their skin darkens in light. They forage to survive. They’re more like us than we ever imagined.

For centuries, they were misunderstood—lumped into the plant kingdom where they didn’t belong, pushed to the margins. Sound familiar? Entire communities and knowledge systems have been misclassified and marginalised when they should have been centred all along.

Now we’re finally seeing what fungi have been doing beneath our feet this whole time.

They’re showing us: 🌱 How to transform waste into food 🌍 How to clean up pollution and toxins 💊 That our food IS our medicine 🔄 How to grow materials that don’t just decompose—they nourish new life 🕸️ How networks share resources to build resilience

Mushrooms prove that connecting to nature is medicine for our bodies and souls.

At Afrifungi, we teach people to partner with biology, not fight against it. To model our systems on nature’s networks. To unlock creativity through collaboration, not extraction.

Because we need a new generation of creative practitioners who work WITH living systems.

The solutions we need are already here, growing beneath our feet. We just need to learn to listen and observe with open hearts and open minds.
